    Amount of People

by canuckmike Written Aug 9, 2004

    4 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Not a real danger or anything but the amount of people that come here is a lot. So it will hard to get some pictures without lots of other tourists in the photo. If you wait for when the boat comes to the island you can get some privacy in main areas when people head towards the boat to leave and before the next tour begins.

To go to the Cellhouse you have to walk up a 12% steep hill. If you have health/mobility problems, I'd recommend you to go with someone else to assist you or to use the SEAT (Sustainable Easy Access Transport), vehicles that will bring you to the Cellhouse.

    Going, going, gone!

by goingsolo Written Jul 10, 2005

Alcatraz is hugely popular. Since everyone wants to visit and there are only a limited number of tickets, they sell out fast, especially on weekends and holidays. Make reservations in advance if you really want to do this tour. Otherwise, you'll find yourself waiting in a long line, and, most likely for nothing as tickets sell out days in advance.

    Abandoned buildings

by ChuckG Written Apr 10, 2003

Lots of buildings were never renovated since the prison closed or were burned down by Native Indian riots. Those are closed down to visitors. I wouldn't go in there...
