After emerging from your airplane at Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, Ontario, or Long Beach Airport, ask virtually any airline/airport/shuttle/rental car employee how to get to Disneyland. Many will have pre-printed information and maps. If you are driving from another state or part of California, check out www.MapQuest.com.
Unfortunately, an effective rapid transit system (including its busses and commuter trains) in Southern California does not exist. You've heard it before, and I'll repeat it: Rent a car. It will be the best way for you to explore Southern California.

if you are visiting anaheim and disneyland the john wayne (santa ana) airport is your best choice. for example los angles international is about 35 miles away from anaheim, long beach airport is 25 miles away from anaheim, and burbank airport is 45 miles away from anaheim. if you arrive at these other los angeles area locations you will need to rent a car to get to anaheim.

    Shuttles: ART Shuttles

  • The ART shuttles are a really convenient and economical way to get to and from Disneyland.

You can buy shuttle passes from the hotels and RV parks in Anaheim, they all sell them. You can also buy your passes in advance, online, and have them shipped by regular mail to your home address or to the hotel you will be staying at.

The shuttles travel every 15 to 20 minutes. There are bus stops along the routes, but they are not the same as the city transit bus stops, so make sure you ask when you buy your pass, where your closest stop is. The shuttle will drop you off at the main gates to Disneyland. When you are ready to go home, you walk to the appropriate shuttle stop in front of the DL main gates, and wait for the next shuttle to arrive.

The passes can be purchased as a one-day, three-day or five-day pass. 2009 rates are $4, $10, and $16 for adults and $1, $2, and $4 for children ages 3 to 10. This allows you unlimited use of the pass for each day. We found this really convenient, because we were there in late August. This is peak volume season for the parks and is also the hottest time of year to be there. The beauty of the unlimited shuttle pass was that it allowed us to leave the park mid-afternoon and go back to our RV park to swim and rest for a couple of hours every day. Then, we just hopped on the next shuttle back to the park and arrived, rested and refreshed.

The shuttles run until after the park closes, so you can stay as late as you want and don't have to worry about whether you'll have a shuttle ride home.

The website link below will allow you to have a look at the schedules & route maps so you can determine if your hotel is on to close to one of the ART routes.

The monorail has stops at Tomorrowland, the main gate and the Disneyland hotel. Unlike the Monorail at Disney World in Florida, this one goes right into the park- right by the Matterhorn.

  • We caught the bus to disneyland once and walked the rest of the time as our hotel was very close to the park entries. The disney Shuttle buses come every 15 minutes to most hotels and cost us $10US each for 3 days of travel. Public transport is readily avaliable on the main roads and there are bus stops eveywhere.

  • By car, I always seem to get lost going to Disneyland, there's so many confusing signs etc. But, after a few 'practice' I think I should be able to go there with no problem next time :)

By Air : John Wayne/Orange County Airport is located 16 miles (26 km)from Anaheim (approx 25 mins). Los Angeles International Airport is the major international gateway into Southern California and is 31 miles (50 km) from Anaheim (approx 50 mins).

By Rail : Amtrak stop at Anaheim Stadium.

Most hotels operate a free shuttle to Disneyland Park. A lot are within walking distance.

If you get tired of walking, take the train which circumvents the park. There are stations at Main Street USA, Frontierland, and Tomorrowland.

Disneyland is not far from Harbor Drive or I-5. Won't have any trouble to follow the signs to it. We took our car. Many hotels near Disneyland provide a free shuttle bus service if you wish to avoid paying the parking fee.
To get around on the Matterhorn take a bobsled.

As in most cities in California, a car is the best way to get to Anaheim and the best way to get around.

The freeway system has just been upgraded--I believe this project is completed--so the traffic should be managable.
