    Rivers of America

by machomikemd Updated Aug 1, 2012
    4 more images

The Large Man Made Lake in the borders of Frontierland, New Orleans Square and Critter Country is the Rivers of America and the small man made island located in it is the tom sawyer's island. It surrounds Tom Sawyer Island, which can be reached by rafts traveling from the Frontierland mainland located near the entrance to the Haunted Mansion. Additionally, there are other water-based vehicles which are found on the river. The sights along the Rivers include a Native American tribe, a burning cabin (though the cabin at Disneyland hasn't been burning for years), and various animatronic wildlife.

    Sailing Ship Columbia

    the ship

This is one of the attractions in the large man made lake bordering frontierland and new orleans Square and where you can take a cruise around the lake. There is a long waiting time in the area and the cruise along the lake is 12 minutes. Once the ship casts off, it begins its voyage around the Rivers of America. The ship, which has three masts and rigging but rarely unfurls its sails, is powered by a compressed natural gas engine. It runs along the same track, hidden by the green dye in the water, as the Mark Twain. The captain provides a tongue-in-cheek running commentary as he calls orders to his crew, while recorded background music plays a selection of nautical songs, such as "Blow the Man Down". As the ship passes Fort Wilderness on Tom Sawyer Island, a Columbia cast member fires two 12-gauge blanks from one of the ship's ten cannons. The Fort also had a cannon that used to fire back.

    Mickey's Toon Town

by machomikemd Updated Aug 1, 2012

This is the smallest themed area of the disneyland and formerly was the who framed roger rabbit area in the 1990's. The attraction is a small-scale recreation of the Mickey Mouse universe where visitors can meet the characters and visit their homes which are constructed in a cartoonish style. The buildings are stylized and colorful. There are several attractions involving classic cartoon characters, such as the houses of Mickey and Minnie Mouse, and a small children's coaster. There are a few interactive gags. Compared to other Disneyland areas however, there are few large or technically complex rides or shows, and the houses themselves appeal primarily as playhouses for small children.

The Big Thunder Ranch is one of the many attractions in the Frontierland area of Disneyland and you need no fast pass to go here as the area is huge. It includes an outdoor petting zoo, a walk-through cabin, and a variety of scenery meant to create the atmosphere of a Western ranch. Inside you can find sheep, goats, cows, and other farm animals. Among these animals are the two turkeys who received presidential pardons in honor of Thanksgiving in 2008. The entire ranch often hosts holiday-themed shows, including "Woody's Halloween Roundup" during Halloween and "Santa's Reindeer Roundup" at Christmas.

Frontier Land is a large themed area of Disneyland where the themed area around the surroundings recreates the setting of pioneer days along the American frontier and it comes with lots of western kitsch items like trains, faux dessert mountains, ranch, etc. The land is home to cowboys and pioneers, saloons, red rock buttes and gold rushes. . The land's long shoreline along the Rivers of America is considered a prime viewing location for the nighttime Fantasmic! show. The docks to both the Mark Twain Riverboat and the Sailing Ship Columbia, (a replica of American explorer Robert Gray's 18th century ship that circumnavigated the globe) are located here, and Tom Sawyer Island in the river's center is also considered a property of Frontierland

The Critter Country is a small themed area of Disneyland where the theme is about the various bear characters of disney. the main draw of the area is Splash Mountain, a log-flume journey inspired by the Uncle Remus stories of Joel Chandler Harris and the animated segments of Disney's Academy Award-winning 1946 film, Song of the South and where you will fall in a 60 foot drop (see my videos). There are many stores and shops and snack stands where the motif is about bears like winnie the pooh and other characters like tigger and piglet.

    New Orleans Square

The New Orleans Square has many of the long lines of the attractions since it has the popular Pirates of the Caribbean Ride and the Haunter Mansion Ride, both of which were made into succesful films. This area is patterned after the 19th century Antebllum New Orleans. The themed land is small and only has 3 attraction (the first two above and the disney railroad which has a stop here). The name is a bit of a misnomer, since the area does not resemble a square so much as an intricate series of "streets" that weave around shops, restaurants, and the first Pirates of the Caribbean show building. It includes the only overnight accommodations in the park open to the public, the Disneyland Dream Suite

    4 more images

Tarzan's Tree House here in Adventure land is really popular for kids since it involves climbing into several flights of stairs around a giant tree house of Tarzan. Tarzan's Treehouse tells the story of Tarzan's wild jungle upbringing and showcases his improvised living conditions. Tour Tarzan's home, built high in an 80-foot-tall tree. Overgrown with vines and constructed with salvaged parts from Tarzan's parents' shipwreck, the tree house features vignettes from Tarzan's life story. Look for illustrations from Jane's sketchbook that provide the details of how Tarzan was saved from the savage Sabor, raised by a kindly gorilla and fell in love. Finally going back to the base camp, you will see ane's collection of scientific equipment and improvised cooking gear .

Part two of my Main Street USA tips with more pictures around

Every Entrance to a Disneyland around the World starts at the Main street USA themed area and the Main Street USA was envisioned by Walt Disney himself as a representative of the typical 1900's era of a town center in America's heartland, the Midwest. patterned after his hometown of Marceline in Missouri. This Main Street is the first Main Street USA of the Disneyland Parks. Main Street, U.S.A. is reminiscent of the Victorian period of America with the train station, town square, movie theater, city hall, firehouse complete with a steam-powered pump engine, emporium, shops, arcades, double-decker bus, horse-drawn streetcar, jitneys and other bits of memorabilia. Main Street is also home to the Disney Art Gallery and the Opera House which showcases Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln.

You can ride at the Train Station here to go around the park or buy assorted food stuffs, trinkets and souvenirs.

Sleeping Beauty Castle maybe the Main Icon of Disneyland but it is not just a faux castle standing in the center of every disneyland park but is also an attraction in itself as there are actually rooms and stairs going up and down the cinderalla's castle where there are many things on display and is called the walkthrough where assorted sleeping beauty items are on display.

    according to wikipedia:

The walkthrough reopened on November 27, 2008 at 5:00 PM, drawing long lines going as far back as the Hub. Unlike previous incarnations, visitors who are unable to climb stairs or navigate the passageways of the Castle can still experience the walkthrough "virtually" in a special room on the Castle's ground floor. This room is lavishly themed, and presents the closed-captioned CGI walkthrough recreation on a high-definition TV. This same virtual recreation is included on the Sleeping Beauty 50th Anniversary Platinum Edition DVD.
