    Space Mountain

by machomikemd Updated Aug 2, 2012

this is the most popular ride in Disneyland, with the longest waiting time, hence having a fast pass is a must as waiting times at the regular lines will take more than 1 hour during peak season. Space mountain is a roller coaster in the dark where you cannot predict the direction you will be pulled through since the inside is dark and the ride starts when you ride in one of the rockets and you go into a slow ride of twist and turns and then go inside a very dark room with thousands upon thousands of stars, along with galaxies, novas, asteroids and other cosmological bodies. Gusts of wind are constantly blowing in the mountain, caused by vents and other rockets. The rockets make a wide u-turn before ascending one more small lift hill. A countdown begins as the vehicles crest the hill and the rockets are sent into a high-speed ride through the immense room. The ride consists of many turns and small dips with the illusion of speed given by the fact that the track is barely visible to the riders. The ride approaches the end by plunging in a series of tight right hand turns, going faster and faster. With a sudden left turn, the vehicles enter the re-entry tunnel with many colorful stars flying towards them and two flashes of light as the onride photo is taken. The rockets hit the brakes and make a final right u-turn back into the station as mission control welcomes the riders back and the music dies away.

    Pirates of the Carribean

by machomikemd Updated Aug 2, 2012

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

this is the iconic ride made more famous by jack sparrow (take a bow johhny depp!) actually, the ride itself is among the most popular in disneylands everywhere even before the first pirates of the carribean movie was made but became more popular after the fact that the movies and the sequels were made. The line here is long anf having a fast pass is a must. During the course of the indoor boat ride, guests float through an immersive, larger-than-life pirate adventure featuring gunshots, cannon blasts, burning buildings, and carousing and pillaging pirates, all accompanied by the now-iconic song "Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life for Me)" written by George Bruns and Xavier Atencio.

    Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (2)

by machomikemd Updated Aug 2, 2012

part two of my tips with more pictures

this is the fast western train on steroids in Frontierland where a fast pass is a must since there is a long waiting time of 1 hour. this is the fast western train on steroids in Frontierland where a fast pass is a must since there is a long waiting time of 1 hour. It is actually a fast roller coaster disguised as a train and although the wait is long, the ride only takes about 2 1/2 minutes as seen in my videos hehehe. The back story of the ride goes like this: Some time in the late 1800s, gold was discovered on Big Thunder Mountain in the American southwest. Overnight, the small mining town of Rainbow Ridges (at Disneyland), Tumbleweed (at the Magic Kingdom), or Thunder Mesa (at Disneyland Paris) became a thriving mining town. Mining was prosperous, and an extensive line of mine trains was set up to transport the ore. Unknown to the settlers, the Mountain was a sacred spot to local Native Americans and was cursed. Before long, the settlers' desecration of the mountain caused a great tragedy, which, depending on the park, is usually depicted to be an earthquake (Disneyland Paris, Disneyland), a tsunami (Tokyo Disneyland), or a flash flood (Magic Kingdom), which befell the mines and town, and the town was abandoned. Some time later, the locomotives were found to be racing around the mountain on their own, without engineers or a crew. The Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was founded in the old mining camp to allow tourists to take rides on the possessed trains.

    Halloween at Disneyland

by machomikemd Updated Aug 2, 2012

the best time to visit disneyland is during the fall season, more so during the month before halloween where disneyland gets an extreme makeover of halloween themed areas and characters and paraphernalia.

    according to their website:

Halloween Time is the most be-witching time of the year at Disneyland Resort. See favorite Disney Characters dressed in their spooky best with fun and surprises around every corner.

Step into Haunted Mansion Holiday brought to you by Jack Skellington.
Drop in for ghostly encounters on The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.
Witness the terrifying transformation as Space Mountain becomes Ghost Galaxy.
Trick-or-treat at Mickey's Halloween Party on select nights. Separate admission required.

    Rivers of America

by machomikemd Updated Aug 1, 2012

The Large Man Made Lake in the borders of Frontierland, New Orleans Square and Critter Country is the Rivers of America and the small man made island located in it is the tom sawyer's island. It surrounds Tom Sawyer Island, which can be reached by rafts traveling from the Frontierland mainland located near the entrance to the Haunted Mansion. Additionally, there are other water-based vehicles which are found on the river. The sights along the Rivers include a Native American tribe, a burning cabin (though the cabin at Disneyland hasn't been burning for years), and various animatronic wildlife.

    Sailing Ship Columbia

by machomikemd Updated Aug 1, 2012

This is one of the attractions in the large man made lake bordering frontierland and new orleans Square and where you can take a cruise around the lake. There is a long waiting time in the area and the cruise along the lake is 12 minutes. Once the ship casts off, it begins its voyage around the Rivers of America. The ship, which has three masts and rigging but rarely unfurls its sails, is powered by a compressed natural gas engine. It runs along the same track, hidden by the green dye in the water, as the Mark Twain. The captain provides a tongue-in-cheek running commentary as he calls orders to his crew, while recorded background music plays a selection of nautical songs, such as "Blow the Man Down". As the ship passes Fort Wilderness on Tom Sawyer Island, a Columbia cast member fires two 12-gauge blanks from one of the ship's ten cannons. The Fort also had a cannon that used to fire back.

    Mickey's Toon Town

by machomikemd Updated Aug 1, 2012

This is the smallest themed area of the disneyland and formerly was the who framed roger rabbit area in the 1990's. The attraction is a small-scale recreation of the Mickey Mouse universe where visitors can meet the characters and visit their homes which are constructed in a cartoonish style. The buildings are stylized and colorful. There are several attractions involving classic cartoon characters, such as the houses of Mickey and Minnie Mouse, and a small children's coaster. There are a few interactive gags. Compared to other Disneyland areas however, there are few large or technically complex rides or shows, and the houses themselves appeal primarily as playhouses for small children.

    Big Thunder Ranch

by machomikemd Written Jul 28, 2012

The Big Thunder Ranch is one of the many attractions in the Frontierland area of Disneyland and you need no fast pass to go here as the area is huge. It includes an outdoor petting zoo, a walk-through cabin, and a variety of scenery meant to create the atmosphere of a Western ranch. Inside you can find sheep, goats, cows, and other farm animals. Among these animals are the two turkeys who received presidential pardons in honor of Thanksgiving in 2008. The entire ranch often hosts holiday-themed shows, including "Woody's Halloween Roundup" during Halloween and "Santa's Reindeer Roundup" at Christmas.

    Frontierland

by machomikemd Written Jul 27, 2012

Frontier Land is a large themed area of Disneyland where the themed area around the surroundings recreates the setting of pioneer days along the American frontier and it comes with lots of western kitsch items like trains, faux dessert mountains, ranch, etc. The land is home to cowboys and pioneers, saloons, red rock buttes and gold rushes. . The land's long shoreline along the Rivers of America is considered a prime viewing location for the nighttime Fantasmic! show. The docks to both the Mark Twain Riverboat and the Sailing Ship Columbia, (a replica of American explorer Robert Gray's 18th century ship that circumnavigated the globe) are located here, and Tom Sawyer Island in the river's center is also considered a property of Frontierland

    Critter Country

by machomikemd Written Jul 27, 2012

The Critter Country is a small themed area of Disneyland where the theme is about the various bear characters of disney. the main draw of the area is Splash Mountain, a log-flume journey inspired by the Uncle Remus stories of Joel Chandler Harris and the animated segments of Disney's Academy Award-winning 1946 film, Song of the South and where you will fall in a 60 foot drop (see my videos). There are many stores and shops and snack stands where the motif is about bears like winnie the pooh and other characters like tigger and piglet.

    New Orleans Square

by machomikemd Written Jul 27, 2012

The New Orleans Square has many of the long lines of the attractions since it has the popular Pirates of the Caribbean Ride and the Haunter Mansion Ride, both of which were made into succesful films. This area is patterned after the 19th century Antebllum New Orleans. The themed land is small and only has 3 attraction (the first two above and the disney railroad which has a stop here). The name is a bit of a misnomer, since the area does not resemble a square so much as an intricate series of "streets" that weave around shops, restaurants, and the first Pirates of the Caribbean show building. It includes the only overnight accommodations in the park open to the public, the Disneyland Dream Suite
