While the custom of sending letters and post-cards home to family and friends persists - so too will waiting in a Post Office to buy the correct value stamps!
That is why wherever I am away from home I look out for post offices in small towns.
They are less busy than city offices and even in popular tourist destinations like Angels Camp, the counter staff are usually, almost always in fact, very helpful and pleased to see visitors.
You will see the Post Office on Main St. - right next door to Angels cinema. Note how the architect reflected the art-deco design of the cinema in the frontage of the post office.
In March/April 2010 it cost 98 cents to post a letter to Europe.

The main street in the historical centre has plenty of shops to attract tourists - antiques, art and crafts, jewels, valuable old stones, coins and other items for collectors with a few clothing shops - mainly outdoor gear and casual. Plus home furnishing and appliances.
And - sign of the times - a large thrift shop
For everyday essentials like food Angels Food Market at 396 N. Main St is a good place- well stocked with fresh produce including organic.
