Avalon is about 1 square mile and the areas you can ride a golf cart is about the same. Cost makes this a tourist trap. It is $40.00 per hour cash, yes cash, and that is even if you stop to go somewhere to sight-see, rest or eat. So, a ten minute ride to visit a site for 40 minutes and a ten minute ride back is a total of 20 minutes driving the golf cart or $2.00 per minute. Yes, it is fun, but for what you are doing it is easier to take the trolley that lets you get on and off at different stops all day long for only $6.00 per person and at $6 times 4 it is only $24.00 and that is for the entire day. I have a "thing to do tip" for the trolley.
Unique Suggestions: Bring along the cash, $40.00 per hour, so have as much cash as the length of time you will have the golf cart out. Go with three other people who will share the expense to get your cost down to $10.00 per hour. Don't stop for long to enjoy something along your route or you will be spending more than one hour to see the entire street layout of Avalon from the hills to the valley.
Fun Alternatives: The Alternative is to take the trolley for only $6.00 per person for the day with on and off privileges.
Don't buy any clothes in Catalina! They are so overpriced, it is not worth it. In fact, don't buy anything you can't bring from home. Don't forget your swimsuit, towels, film, sunscreen, chapstick, etc. You do not want to purchase those high-priced items in Avalon.
We ran outta some of our 'diet' foods and visited their grocery store to stock up...MISTAKE! Pack well and avoid the high prices if possible!
Unique Suggestions: DON'T get caught having to buy things you could have brought with you! The prices for bathing suits, towels and other beach/home items are outrageous!
Fun Alternatives: Look for the unique at the shops...they're still great to browse!!!
The stores. Shop around a while before buying anything. One store can have a necklace for $20.00 while a store a few doors down has it for $9.00. Just check your options.
