    Brimstone: Good Bar and Restaurant

by WulfstanTraveller Written Aug 17, 2013

This is a nice bar, and restaurant, downstairs in the Padre Hotel. It's attractive and in the evening is lively. It has brunch and lunch as well. Everything we've had is at least pretty good, but a couple fancier items we've had at dinner were mediocre. Service seems a bit slow, but not bad.

24th St Cafe: Great Breakfast and Lunch Place

by WulfstanTraveller Updated Aug 8, 2013
    2 more images

This is a wonderful breakfast-and-lunch diner in an old diner building. It has a very extensive menu, not always a good sign of actual quality, but here the quality matches the variety. The menu items include a wide range of standards and many variations on the standards, some quite unique. The food, in out experience, is prepared really well, in addition to being generous portions. Thje people are efficient and handle the crowds enthusiastically. This place can get busy and they have a partially enclosed waiting area outside that has coffee and sometimes somebody playing music, but it moves quickly and the place is a must-visit when in Bakersfield.

Favorite Dish: The cinnamon rolls are huge and very tasty, with good texture. Chicken Fried Chicekn Breast & Eggs, various dishes with eggs are great.

Barb's Lunch and More: Remember When!

Is this a really cool place or what? I bet you didn't think places like this still existed anymore. Well, what makes it even more unique is that it is inside of the Old Woolworth building where they have the antique mall. So you can sit and enjoy that Cheese Burger along with being able to check out all the neat antiques too.
They serve the typical diner food, but provide a Garden Burger, Sandwiches, Salads, Soups, Chili, and much more. So come in and checkout it out.

Favorite Dish: The Cheese Burgers are always great here and malts are the cats meow! Ok, that just sounded so corny, please tell me to stop...hehe!

Sadly this place couldn't compete with all the other businesses. Although, the place was a little dated, it was a place I enjoyed. Not just for the good food, service, and the wonderful history this place has.

Wow, this place is great. I just think it is so neat that someone had the foresight in converting this wonderful piece of history to something everyone can enjoy and that would be food!!!!! The decor is great and comfortable and everyone is so friendly here. The food is great, so what else can I say. Come on in and enjoy!

Favorite Dish: Steaks and the Malibu Chicken is yummy!

What great food, decor, and service. If you want to watch a game, this is the place to come. About the only thing is it is too loud. Way too much going on. If you can find a corner in the place where it is a little quieter, you'll enjoy the place better.

Not a fancy place by far, but it is fun. If your expecting gormet food, get real. Its a burger joint. We enjoyed our food. I had a regular burger and my hubby had the fish & chips and it was good. I thought the meal was cheap. There are some neat pictures on the wall the illustrates how the Burger Depot came to be. It is actually in a old train car. They have a nice patio outside to sit on too.

A family owned restaurant that was started by Santos Gamez. It was on this site in 1939 a simply Hot Dog and Snow Cone stand that was transformed in 1953 into a Mexicali Restaurant.

We decided to try it out. It has wonderful decor and the service here is excellent. I will say the sauces they use were different than I am use too. It was not bad, but I prefer what I am traditional use too. Still the food was good and will probably go back.

What is unique, it is next to the Riverwalk!

Sadley this place has closed. We liked it and thought of it unique. Yet, maybe the hidden location was not enough to keep it going.

What a neat place! We enjoyed the food, service, and decor! We ate light by sharing a appetizer Grilled Chicken Quesadillas. Very delicious!

    Sequoia Sanwich Company: Great Sandwiches!

by Yaqui Updated Apr 4, 2011

If you like fresh food, then you will love this place. They make everything fresh everyday. They have a huge variety of sandwiches, soups and salads. I’ve frequent this place whenever I have jury duty. It is located right in the downtown area and right down the street from the state and federal courthouses. The food is great and the service is fast, especially for those who are on a tight lunch break. Not a big place, but tables inside and a couple patio tables are outside.

Coconut Joe's Beach Grill: Great food and fun decor

This is a neat restaurant. You order your food at the counter, but they do bring it to you. Lots t look at all over the place. The atmosphere is very colorful and cheery. It looks small from the outside, but is suited to seat a lot of customers. The food was excellent and so was the service.

    Monday - Sunday
    10am-9:30pm

Favorite Dish: We had this: Chicken & Tri-tip dinner starts with 2 pieces of tender chicken - marinated in our secret blend of island spices and fruit juice and grilled to perfection over our famous mesquite grill. Next we add 2 ounces of succulent marinated tri-tip beef, a delicious tossed garden salad (with our signature oil & vinegar dressing), and our beans (prepared with spices and water - NO LARD!). We finish off this huge platefull, with a Pyrenees sour dough roll (with butter), and our freshly made chunky salsa. Your meal also includes Iced Tea and Lemonade.http://www.coconutjoes.com/xbanquethall/whatstoeat.php

Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week. Opening at 6 am daily gives all you early bird a chance for breakfast. We ate here and they had lots to chose from the menu. It decorated in western decor with some neat historical photos of the local areas. The food was good and so was the service. The prices are not bad either.
