Bakersfield Police Memorial
This memorial is inscribed with:
~The Psalm of David reads~
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil….”
It is in that valley the police officer commits his life to defend us daily. When the shadow of death descends upon them and takes them from us, hold them in high esteem and honor them, for they have paid the ultimate price and given their lives to protect ours.
R.N. Boggs, Detective
These are inscribed to the left of the plaque:
~In Memory of~
Thomas J. Parkard ~1903
Aaron A. Trent~1917
Floyd B.W.D. Cummings~1952
William L. Rucker~1952
William L. Sikola~1983
The plaque on the lower wall reads:
~A Police Officers Prayer~
Pausing for a moment by my police car
And bowing for a second to pray
I begin my shift with a silent request
Lord be my partner
The mile I walk today Dear Lord
Is a mile that’s never been trod
For the many curves, the winding road
I need your direction Dear Lord
In numbers untold, my brothers, and I
Have walked this road before
Its face rearranging, crags rearranging
And today I will walk it once more
With all on the line, ready to give
Whatever the duty will be
My single request can best be expressed
Lord, walk this mile with me
From us who serve in suits of Blue
And shades of tan and green
As we on our way on patrol this day
Oh Lord, make your presence be seen
To lay down my life
Rather than swerve from the path of duty……
