This is not to be confused with Goff's Schoolhouse which actually is a schoolhouse!!
My visit to this schoolhouse was one more of my little small town American highlights. Sexy women, low lighting, soft music, a smoochy dance or two, sitting out on the porch at midnight with new friends, a cigarette and a beer in hand, listening to the night sounds and breathing in the cooling desert air a couple of miles out into the country away from the lights of downtown Barstow. The Schoolhouse isn't actually a bar as such but is someone's front room, I can't remember the guy's name now, and has been set up as a louche bar with a proper well stocked bar counter, pedestal tables and seating and a fridge full of beer. All this and the drinks are free!!!
"Just help yourself, have a cocktail, whatever, chill." Was the simple instruction from my new host and chill it was :)
Dress Code: At the risk of sounding repetitive, scantily-clad females always appreciated.

Irish Car Bomb: Half fill a 10oz tumbler with draft Guinness, take a shot glass and almost fill with Emmetts (Similar to Baileys), then float a splash of Jamesons whiskey on the top. Drop bomb into Guinness and down in one - delish!
Mollie's Pub was a real find in the corner of an uninspiring mall here in Downtown Barstow with a predominantly Hispanic clientele and an Irish theme. A couple of pints of Bass (the fizzy US version unfortunately) and I got chatting to John, the owner, and a couple of the girls at the bar. It turned out that it was one of the girl's birthdays and so a round of "Car Bombs" was duly poured and drunk by all at the bar.
A few more beers had to be drunk and on enquiring about a local taxi to get back to the hotel John said he'd sort us out a ride as he was finishing for the night anyway and suggested stopping off for another beer elsewhere. Sounded good to me! See next tip and the one on transportation :)
Dress Code: Hey, this is a John pub and so no dress code though as always scantily-clad females always welcome ;)

Our Place Bar on Highway 58 west of Barstow....well we've passed by it for years and this time my human decided to break out and go in and have a look see and a couple of beers. Not unlike the star wars bar scene, it was interesting to say the least....people in civil defiance of the Calif no smoking laws...draft and CAN beer...pork rinds for sale oh yeah!!!
Dress Code: you have to be dressed, i think
