 | Berkeley Restaurants | Tips 1 - 10 of 54 | | Great food; decor is funky--there is a fountain in the middle of the restaurant; there is a clothesline with clothes strung across one side of the restaurant, giving one the feeling that you are sitting alfresco on a small side street in Italy...service is good.
Had a prix fixe dinner--$22 for three courses: * shaved fennel salad; * arugula fettucine w/ three kinds of mushrooms tossed w/ spinach, garlic and white truffle oil; * chocolate gelato w/ Tuscan cookies. Delicious red wine (yummmmm.....) Leave a Comment

Good food, lively atmosphere (a bit on the loud side, but lively nonetheless!), great drinks.
Spicy fried squid; sizzling rice soup; gai lan (not with plain oyster sauce, but a flavorful delicious sauce); chow fun; everything I've had there is good. This was the best place to eat on the north side of Berkeley. For $3 you can get a filling meal (with all 4 of the basic food groups). And it was only a few steps away from the Computer Science lab. They got a good tasty menu and the restuarant always makes it on to the city's "Best of Berkeley" list. Also listed as one of the healthiest places to eat in Berkeley.
$3.49 Grilled Chicken Burrito. It's big. Baja Fresh sells the same sized burrito for $7. I'd eat it at around 5pm and it would hold me for lunch and dinner on most days. Go easy on the beans if you were like me and planned to be sitting in the lab for a few hours (hazardous gas can build up). These are always up for debate on which has the best slice of Pizza. Well, if you are from Europe or the East Coast, you will probably say neither, but... They are both on Telegraph Ave, a block or two down from the University (Blondie’s on your right, and Fat Slice on your left) I tend to usually go to Blondie’s. If nothing else, it has been a staple in the world of Berkeley.

When people ask, “What are some of my favorite foods?” and one of my responses is “Ethiopian.” – Why do they usually look surprised? Well, it is. If you are looking for something light, this is not the place. Traditionally, when you order arrives, everyone’s dish is placed communally on a big round “serving tray” and you eat with your hands by picking up your food with a flat pancake type of bread. (I apologize I forget the names of everything) Of course, this promotes everyone eating other’s food. This can be messy or even romantic - whichever - it is fun! If you like Middle Eastern or Indian food, give this a try. My favorite Ethiopian restaurants are/were in Adams Morgan (Washington DC), but this place is worth checking out. closed on Mondays
They have two main combo plates. Each one incorporates about half of the main courses. So if you order one of each, you have a little of everything. Best egg rolls ever! I ate here twice and wasn’t too impressed with my entrees, but the egg rolls are magnificent. My friend who eats here all the time also recommends the mango salad. The interior is really funky and modern, and it has a huge skylight, track lighting, and a water wall. The waitstaff is extremely nice and accommodating.

What can I say? Marveilleux! The spot chosen to celebrate my brother-in-law's 50th birthday. Delicious French food, a wonderful, lively ambiance.
I LOVED my boef bourginion. I know, it's just beef stew. But it was parfait, absolutment! Mark, however, had something else terrific: sole stuffed with crab, in a cream sauce. Mmmmm. Leave a Comment

We had a tiny VT get together for afternoon cocktails on 6 February, 2003. The event was a small aftershock from the giant SF VT blowout of the previous weekend. Hasan (hassanhanks) was in Berkeley for three days for a convention. Sandy & Fred (redlats) were still in town from Winnipeg. Hasan brought a colleague with him, Pauline. And I, of course, stopped in to have a margarita with him at this point halfway in between my office and home. VT really has some wonderful members. I'm so happy to have found this group! If you've had enough road food, stop in at Intermezzo for a gigantic salad. The half-sandwich, half-salad combo is more than enough to feed the biggest appetites. It can get pretty crowded around lunch time, but the wait is worth it. This place has been around for at least 20 years and is a well known, well loved institution of Telegraph Ave. Leave a Comment Theme: Health FoodPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: On Telegraph about 3 blocks south of the U.

Very small place with just a few tables, Kitchen is right behind the counter. Always showing Pakistani music videos with colorful ethnic dancing. The spicy lamb kebab, tandoori chicken, naan bread are all excellent!
