Teddy Bear Cafe: Teddy Bear Cafe

    by Erin74 Updated Jan 4, 2004

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Built in 1944, the Teddy Bear Cafe is located in the conveniently-named Teddy Bear Square in downtown Big Bear. It's a very popular local diner. In fact, you may have to wait for a table during peak times. The wait is worth it. Here, you'll find inexpensive and tasty down-home food and a wide selection of menu options. The decor here is decidedly country. There are knotty-pine walls and teddy bears placed on ledges around the room. Personally, I like sitting at the counter and enjoying all the hustle and bustle around the kitchen.

Favorite Dish: This menu has it all. They serve breakfast all day and the omlettes and breakfast burritos are very popular. The lunch menu has a wide array of sandwiches, salads and burgers. They even have a small menu of healthy choices (try the tuna salad on pita bread-- very good!). I like the tuna melt and the turkey burger. Also, you must get a cup of the hot chocolate, which is topped with tons of whipped cream.

North Pole Fudge in Big Bear

North Pole Fudge and Ice Cream is an amazing place, filled with homemade fudge and other delicious desserts. The options here include assorted chocolates, Caramel Apples, Frozen Bananas, Hand-Dipped Ice Cream Bars, Chocolate Turtles and 10 Flavors of Truffles. In the summer, crowds of tourists and locals alike clamor for the tasty ice cream. This place is so popular that they are now making their products available online. Be sure and stop by while you're in Big Bear!

    It is really difficult to...

    by KikBkK8 Written Oct 4, 2002

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

It is really difficult to choose just one favorite...when I am in the mood for chinese food, I go to Mandarin Garden at
the airport, when I want mexican food I like La Montana on
Moonridge Road, which is next door to another good seafood
and steak place called Captain's Anchorage. Historically,
Log Cabin Restaurant is quaint and unique and worth a try...
There are many diverse restaurants in the area, and choosing
one is a matter of mood and personal taste, but there should
be something for everyone's palate in this warm mountain top
    community! Enjoy!

Favorite Dish: At Mandarin Garden the sizzling rice soup is excellent. When
I order a meal at La Montana, I usually get a tostada salad.
Captain's Anchorage has superb Tail N'Tater, which is quite
a pricey item, but well worth every delicious bite of lobster tail. Log Cabin's menu is changing all the time, &
they also stock their tasty sourdough bread in the tiny
grocery store in Fawnskin on the north shore.

    Timberwolf Deli: Timberwolf Deli

    by Erin74 Written Jan 4, 2004

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Timberwolf Deli has the best sandwiches in Big Bear. Located right in the heart of the village, the deli is a small but bright and comfortable space with just enough indoor seating. I highly recommend eating here at least once while you're in town.

Favorite Dish: The best items here are the sandwiches. There are tons of different kinds and they all have place-themed names: Yosemite, Fifth Avenue, Rodeo Dr., French Quarter, etc... They also feature sandwiches especially for those who follow the Atkins Diet and a nice selection of soups and salads. You'll also find smoothies and little treats here... perfect for a snack after a long day on the slopes.

Log Cabin Restaurant: Log Cabin Restaurant

    by Erin74 Updated Jan 4, 2004

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Log Cabin Restaurant is a rustic, comfortable restaurant with a large outdoor patio for summer dining. It's located just down the street from the Village, on Big Bear Blvd. If you have a large group of friends or family, this is a great place to bring them-- they'll have enough space for everyone.

Favorite Dish: The menu here is really eclectic, featuring everything from salads, sandwiches and seafood to cajun dishes and a good selection of German dishes. One popular choice, the Farmer's Plate (with three kinds of sausage and German side dishes). There is also a big breakfast menu. Whether you want pancakes or schnitzel, they've got it!

  • Paoli's Pizza: Solid Pizza

    by suebee36 Updated Jan 22, 2007

Solid Pizza with good ambience in Big Bear Village. On the outskirts of the Village but seemed well visited by locals and not too touristy. Good place to chill out, laid back place.

Favorite Dish: We ordered Pizza with onion, sausage and tomato. Thicker crust - not quite Chicago style. Really fresh tomato sauce on Pizza. Great sausage (would have like to gobble up more of it). Nice house salad too.

  • Blondie's Grille: Solid Service & Food - - But nothing too special

    by suebee36 Updated Jan 22, 2007

We were freezing on a 15 degree day...Blondie's was the first restaurant we saw. On the main Big Bear Village drag, but need to walk down a corridor of shops to get to it. Ambience was nothing special...pretty bland. Service was really excellent though. Very friendly people.

Favorite Dish: Generous portions with the kids meals...standard stuff, chicken fingers, grilled cheese. Turkey sandwich was nice and they make a good salad.

    Old Country Inn: Home Cooking

    Bleu Cheese Burger
    2 more images

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Some German inspired dishes such as Brautwurst, sauerkraut and potato pancakes. All kinds of sandwiches, salads and home style meals such at meatloaf. Pretty big menu so I'm sure there is something you'll find that you like.

Favorite Dish: Boyfriend had a Bleu Cheese burger which he seemed to thoroughly enjoy. I had the Turkey Avocado Melt which was really good.

It's definitely better than the food up at the ski resort. I would definitely stop in here again.
