Things to Do

Old Mono County Jail

Old Mono County Jail, Bridgeport

WulfstanTraveller Says:  The old Mono County Jail is an interesting small stone building built in 1883 from local stone. It operated as the county jail until 1964.

Bodie

Bodie, Bridgeport

mtncorg Says:  Bodie is a ghost town that is maintained as a state historical park. A huge mineral town for a short while in the late 19th century. Better known for its fiercely cold winters - Mark Twain once spent a season here. The park is very informative and well worth a day.

Horse Creek Pass

Horse Creek Pass, Bridgeport

mtncorg Says:  Horse Creek Pass is one of those options that can get the intrepid hiker into the northern sections of the Yosemite backcountry. It is not for the beginning hiker. The way climbs steeply out of the road end at Mono Village on a maintained trail for the first mile and a half,...

Matterhorn Peak

Matterhorn Peak, Bridgeport

mtncorg Says:  This is an easy slog up fro Horse Creek Pass with a world-class view from the peak. A lot of bang for your buck here. It doesn't look like the Swiss version of the Matterhorn, but once atop it, it really doesn't matter.

The Silver Maple Inn: Charming 1930's style motel in a park like setting, Bridgeport

sean420 Says:  The SIlver Maple Inn is a charming 1930's style motel located in the center of town next to the historic Mono County Courthouse. The rooms are all arranged in a L shape around a park like setting with grass, shady trees, tables and chairs. The rooms are comfortable and clean...

Restaurants

Rhino's Bar and Grill: Best pizza and burgers in Bridgeport!

Rhino's Bar and Grill: Best pizza and burgers in Bridgeport!, Bridgeport

sean420 Says:  Rhino's bar and Grill is a great place to have a pizza or burger and wash it down with a beer or two. The bar is stocked with a great selection of top and bottom shelf liquors and has about 9 beers on tap. The food is incredibly inexpensive when compared to the outrageous...

Hays Street Cafe: Great place for breakfast!

Hays Street Cafe: Great place for breakfast!, Bridgeport

sean420 Says:  The Hays Street Cafe is the only restaurant in town that serves breakfast - and they do a good job at it! Everything on the menu is made from scratch. You get a giant cup of coffee with breakfast that will definately jump start your day. Since it is the only breakfast joint...

Bridgeport General Store: Sub sandwiches...Mmmmmm!

Bridgeport General Store: Sub sandwiches...Mmmmmm!, Bridgeport

Wilrobnson Says:  Scott, who works here, makes some of the best sub sandwiches...Thick, loaded and excellently prepared. Be sure to complete the experience by dining at the indoor tables to the left of the sandwich counter.

Virginia Creek Settlement: Excellent Italian

Virginia Creek Settlement: Excellent Italian, Bridgeport

Wilrobnson Says:  This is a small place (10 tables?) set in a B&B style place. Some of the best Italian food I've had in a long time. The decor is western-themed, with plenty of old ranch, farm, and unidentifiable miscellanea hanging from the walls/ceiling. The law enforcement mementos are...

Location: 50 miles south of..., Bridgeport

JeanCooke Says:  Location: 50 miles south of Lake Tahoe, in California, 13 miles east of Highway 395 on Highway 270, which is 6 miles south of Bridgeport near the Nevada border. FYI: Highway 270 is open only sporadically in the winter time and is not paved on the final 3 miles to Bodie....

With 4WD, take Bodie Creek..., Bridgeport

JeanCooke Says:  With 4WD, take Bodie Creek Road from Aurora, Nevada. Flash floods through narrow canyons are always a possibility especially rain storms in the mountains. We didn't have to use 4WD but the road is very bumpy in places.See the old telegraph lines. Stop and smell the flowers....

Flash floods can occur unexpectedly. Listen to weather reports. Always have a plan to get to higher ground; which may mean abandoning your vehicle and belongings.
