Especially in September and October, brush fires in Southern California are very dangerous and, as can be seen, happen very close to us. The local fire departments were able to save every home accept one. They were amazing. We have many friends that this recent fire (Sept 2005) affected.
Malibu Canyon between the San Fernando Valley and the Beach is beautiful and dramatic, but we lose several wonderful people every year when they fail to negotiate the turns and head over the cliff. It is tempting to speed through the canyon, but please mind the speed limits. The roadside memorial is another testimonial of driving too fast.
Being in the Santa Monica Mounrtains, nature is only a footstep away. It is very common to find a rattlesnake in your backyard or on the front porch. If you are hiking in the hills you always have to be careful to watch your step or where you put your hand.
These two were found right across the street from the Calabasas High School. In amorous embrace, they were oblivious to our picture taking a few feet away.
