Calexico Things to Do
I did not explore here much since it looked like a fairly typical border town. May have to go back and explore some day but I had higher priorities this trip.
Calexico is a fast growing small city of about 39,000 (up 45% since 2000) located just south of Interstate 8 at the intersection of California Highways 98 and 111 and US Highway 99 in southern California, on the border with Mexico. The larger town of Mexicali (population about 700,000) is just across the border. Calexico began in 1899 as an agricultural center and was incorporated in 1908. Today it is an industrial center and a major border crossing point for trucks and goods going from the interior of Mexico to ports in the United States, locations along the west coast and beyond. The city gwts much of its identity from being a border city and its rapid growth gives it the look of many modern towns with the usual generic looking malls, motels, restaurants and other businesses; but also with a distinct Mexican flavor.Related to:
