    SolBar: Dine at a Spa

by Agraichen Updated Aug 6, 2011

Located wthin the Solage Resort and Spa at 755 Silverado Trail, The SolBar restaurant provides a wonderful place to relax and dine.

The eclectic menu provides something for everyone whether it's a light snack or a full course dinner. There is something that can be found to please most everyone.

Favorite Dish: This was our first visit so only two dishes are reviewed. The mushroom pizza was amazing and done to perfection. The chicken salad (chicken paillard) was incredible according to my wife.

    Wappo Bar and Bistro: It's a bird...it's a plane...

by karenincalifornia Updated Sep 9, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Can you guess what this is?

An owner of one of the Calistoga art galleries recommended Wappo Bar and Bistro for lunch. In case you are wondering, "Wappo" is the name of the local Native tribe. Of course, if this bar and bistro had a football team, the NCAA would be pounding on them to change the name. The location and ambience were perfect. The bistro is located just off the main street in the downtown area, and the dining area was in a garden patio. Just what you would hope and expect to find in the heart of the wine country.

Favorite Dish: Some examples of lunch items are: Greek Skewered Chicken, Duck Carnitas Yucateco, and Thai Shrimp or Chicken Curry with Vegetables.

Pictured here is my lunch - it looks like a moss covered zeppelin, just pulled out of the Atlantic, plopped on top of a Calistoga mud pie. It is really a Roasted Pasilla Chili Relleno - stuffed with Rice, Currants, Cheeses, Pine Nuts, Herbs, served with Walnut and Pomegranate Sauce. My zeppelin, I mean, my relleno was good, but like most California restaurants serving southwestern cuisine, the spiciness had been dumbed down for the masses. I love hot stuff. They could've turned the heat up a bit.

Cafe Sarafornia: Great Breakfast and Lunch

by WulfstanTraveller Updated Aug 31, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is a great small, imaginitive diner-like resturant owned by a relative of the owner of the very similar Parkside Cafe across the mountains in my home town, Santa Rosa. While not quite as good or varied as the Santa Rosa place (and with a more traditional diner menu), it is funky and serves basically standard American food but with care and imagination. Like the other, it is also a great place to go for a filling meal and is a breakfast and lunch place. It is thus also a little less expensive than the average for the town.

Favorite Dish: Great bisciuts & gravy, sandwiches, etc.

Hydro Grill: Good food but too many flies around

by blueskyjohn Updated May 4, 2013

The Hydro Grill is a nice place, typical bar and dining area but has very high ceilings and a lot of natural light. The wait staff are very good and attentive. I wanted to try some of the beer they have on tap only because they have such unique name. But not a good enough reason, lol. Food came out promptly. We had the BLTA (bacon, lettuce, tomato and avocado) with a bowl of tomato soup. Also, the hamburger with mozzarella and basil pesto with sweet potato fries. It was very good.

The only down side was how many flies are inside this place. Even though it is all indoor seating, you would think it was outdoors. So annoying, I would wait before ordering next time to see if this problem is gone.

    Napa Vineyards

Entrance to this gem is a beautiful ivy walkway. During nice weather, which is most of the time in Napa, dine on the beautiful candlelit patio. Everydish is creative and prepared with expertise. After a day of tastings this is the place to enjoy your dinner and surrondings with a bottle of a Napa wine.

Favorite Dish: The seafood stew is delectible. Even the table water is great which is flavored with refreshing citrus, mint, cucumber and cilantro.

We ate at Checkers restaurant, it was great food and we had a window seat to enjoy people walking by on the street and a nice parade of expensive automobiles crusing down the main street. They have interesting art through out the restaurant, as seen in the photo.

  • Flatiron Grill: Enjoyable

by hoosierdjb Written Jun 19, 2007

I had salmon, wife had filet. Salmon was great, with a slightly crusty and salty surface that I really enjoyed. Smashed potatoes that came with it were very good, too. Wife's filet was perfectly cooked, very tasty. Room was not busy at all, a little surprising for a tourist town, but probably due to weeknight.

Favorite Dish: I preferred the salmon.

Hydro Bar & Grill: Good Food, Beer, and Cocktails

by WulfstanTraveller Written Aug 30, 2007

This is a neat, casual place that serves some great, tasty food carefully made with fresh ingredients. It is also attractive, in an old brick building with bar brick walls and a nice bar in the centre of the restaurant. The salads are really good and the desserts are also tasty.

This is also a nice alternative for "grown-up" drinks without having to resort to wine, which can be really tiresome after a while in the "wine country," especially if you live in it (like me). It seems to be a pretty good cocktail place as this element is quite prominent in the place's image and it lists a large selection of cocktails, including some relatively rare old ones, rather than merely serving a bunch of fake, sweet "martinis" that have nothing to do with a Martini (they have those, too). At least as importantly, it has a great selection of micro-brewed beers on tap, including Arrogant Bastard Red Ale, which alone is reason enough to go here. This beer, from Southern California, is hard to find and is outstandingly rich and flavourful.

On the down side, the desserts, while generally very good, are also generally tiny (except the creme brulee). While the place is not cheap, most of the desserts stand out as seeming overpriced.

The worst thing is that the service is generally terrible. In our experience, it is slow, inattentive, and unfriendly. This is the main reason why my overall score is as low as it is since I would give it a much higher rating with good service. Should the service improve in our experience, I will adjust the rating, but at the moment, I cannot ignore it. However, if one has time to spare, the food and drink are generally worth it.
