    Pick-up Truck is a personal
    vehicle too.
    by lmkluque
California has a definate car culture and one of the reasons for that is the distance from one part of a city to another. For example, if your hotel is in Carlsbad Village--the downtown area and you want to take the kids to LEGOLAND, you will need a car to get there. Well, maybe you'll be provided some sort of shuttle, but the point is, having access to a car is very convenient.

A pick-up truck is especially useful for carrying your ATVs, (All Terrain Vehicles,) dirt bikes and other "toys" for beach or desert activities

Oceanside to San Diego are the two main junctions the train travels. Carlsbad Village stop is just on of those stations it stops at. The station is equiped with a information center, snack bar and restrooms with some parking. I did notice that they do have a security guard on duty. Please checkout the website because it gives you so much information in planning a trip on the train. It located on Carlsbad Village Drive off of the I-5 exit west. It is on the right hand side.

From Legoland, I took bus #344 to Carlsbad Village Station. At the station, I got a ticket for the Coaster train to San Diego. It's all very covenient. Carlsbad Village Station is both a bus stop and a Coaster train station.

Coaster trains have two stops in Carlsbad: Carlsbad Village Station and Carlsbad Poinsettia Station. There are also stations in Oceanside, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Sorrento Valley, Old Town, and San Diego. You'll probably see lots of beaches on your train ride--the train is named "Coaster" for a reason.

Travel time from Carlsbad Village Station to Santa Fe Depot in San Diego is a little less than an hour. Fare for this trip, which is the maximum, is $4.75. If you have a bus transfer or a day pass, you pay only $4. Note that you need to have your ticket validated. There are several trains plying each direction of the route from Monday to Saturday.

    .
    BY HIGHWAY S21:
I drove to Carlsbad from San Diego by the road S21 on Saturday early afternoon. The traffic was neither heavy nor light, I could say. Close to major intersections the road was a little jammed whereas it was empty in other places.

S21 is a part of Pacific Coastal Highway 1 (or 101) which goes along the Pacific Coast from Mexico to... Canada :-)).

    BY FREEWAY I-5:
I-5 is a main north-south freeway of the West. It goes from Mexican to Canadian border.
There is the Exit 50 to the downtown of Carlsbad: Carlsbad Village Drive

  • CARLSBAD BLVD. SIGN - Carlsbad
    CARLSBAD BLVD. SIGN
    by matcrazy1
The main street of Carlsbad goes south-north, along the Pacific coast south of the downtown, then a little more inland. It's called CARLSBAD BOULEVARD.
It's road S21, a part of the Coastal Pacific Highway (historical road 101 or 1) which goes from Mexico to... Canada.

Look at my picture. It's common American mode of signing of streets.
IMPORTANT: the sign always shows the name of the parallel street. So, when you drive Carlsbad Avenue you will see on each intersection names of the perpedicular streets in front of you and if you look right/left you can see signs Carlsbad Blvd.

    WATCH FOR STOP!
    by matcrazy1
They used to paint many information and warning signs/writings on the road surface. Like in any other European country, I suppose.
Hmm... they seem to be bigger (lanes as well) than I used to see in Europe.
Look at my picture and watch for STOP.

    by matcrazy1
Fortunately I knew the meaning of the word "AHEAD" when I was driving there :-) = (directly) in front. Hmm... there is no 1 word in my language for ahead.
So, they often write traffic warning signs like: stop ahead, speed limit ahead, school ahead etc. on signs by a highway and sometimes on the road surface as well.
