Built in 1887 as a craftmans style home. It was home to many families the first was Samual Church Smith. It soon was bought and sold by several families. It was purchased by Alexander Shipley for his family, but soon upon his death was inherted by Florence Shipley Magee who returned in 1940's after the death of her husband and father and left the estate to the City of Carlsbad as a historical site in 1974 after her death.
They have self quided tours Friday 2-4 and Saturdays 1-5.
Admission is $1 for adults and free for children.
No food or drinks please!
Private tours can be scheduled.
This site is next to a park and it contains several other historical buildings such as a barn, cistern, outhouse, heritage hall and granary. There is a very lovely garden to enjoy too! Plus there is available some public restrooms too!
