The service is great and it has a fun cartoon character bar. Lunch or dinner, big party or a quick drink at the bar..Rio has it all.

That evening, at the Monterey Bay, after having walked along Carmel, we decided to have a fast dinner in Monterey and then to head for Marina for the night. Arrived in Monterey, we parked somewhere and we said "ok, let's go along this road and let's choose a restaurant". We were crushed by tiredness, but no one wanted to say it. Obviously we chose the FIRST restaurant we found. That was a Korean Restaurant. Will you believe than even the water was terrible? Will you believe that I had problems for three days? I can't remember the name of that terrifying place but, just to be sure, avoid ALL the korean restaurants in Monterey. Leave a Comment

It's a small restaurant with a great atmosphere,it feels like you are eating in your own home. Nice and friendly waiting. Kids get there own crayons and may draw on the paper tablecloth. It's best to make reservations because it's always busy.

There are many lovely European tea rooms(!!) here in Carmel-by-the-Sea.... and The Tuck Box is one place which I'd like to recommend. This place serves some of the most delicious scones that I've ever tasted (baked daily from a northern Scots recipe) and we were here for some Afternoon tea.... :-))
They serve delicious meals for lunch and dinner. But I'd recommend that you try their Afternoon Tea and their scones, of course!! Theme: OtherAddress: On Dolores between Ocean and 7th.....Other Contact: Photo Bel

Really neat place . . . One entire wall outside is a beatifully painted landscape . . . Food was nothing to rave about, but not bad either . . . When we were there, it was chilly, but we still ate outside right next to a fireplace . . . It was great Leave a Comment Theme: Other

There are several good restaurants in the main part of town. Outside of Carmel, on the way south towards Big Sur, there is a place called the Cliffhouse which - you guessed it - is built into the side of a cliff overlooking the ocean. On a warm day it is amazing, and the brunch is good. Highly recommended.

Casual, California dining but good food. Location sucks, in a strip mall but an upscale, Carmel strip mall.

Some friend of ours who live in Pebble Beach told us about Katy's, so we decided to try it when we had guests in town. On a Saturday morning we tried (and failed) to get up early then headed over to Carmel. We finally arrived around 11:30 or so and quickly found Katy's on Mission between 6th and 7th, along with a nearby two hour street parking spot. Katy's was packed, so we had a reasonable 20 minute wait. While you wait, grab a complementary cup of coffee or play with some of the kids toys. We were seated in a comfortable corner of this old-fashioned country feeling restaurant. The food choices were impressive. They specialize in pancakes, waffles, omelets, and most impressive was the 18 varieties of eggs Benedict. I stuck with a traditional ham and cheese omelet ($12) while two others in our party had the Irish eggs Benedict with corn beef hash ($18), and the last of our group had the corn beef hash with eggs ($17). All three meals were huge... each had three eggs plus a giant order of crispy, perfectly seasoned potatoes. My omelet was very good with its tasty chunks of ham, lots of Monterey jack cheese, and fresh whole wheat toast. I was most impressed with the corned beef hash, which was made from real corned beef and potatoes, not out of a can... Along with our food, we had an order or pancakes, four coffees, a V-8, an OJ, and water, bringing our total bill to around $110. Warning: Katy's only accepts cash... so bring lots of it! Open every day from 7am until 2pm. Leave a Comment

OK, so maybe this cant be classed as a restaurant but this really was one of the most pleasant meals we'd ever had. On Alan's insistence we headed for the famous Carmel Cheese House. It was wonderful - we were in cheese heaven (we both could never give up cheese!) The staff were incredibly knowledgable and helpful and after trying many cheeses we settled on a few between us. We also bought some fresh french bread, some salami, beer and headed off to the beach. We then spent all afternoon with our books, chilling out, eating our picnic and admiring this wonderful part of California. The icing on the cake for me was meeting a Gordon Setter having his walk on the beach and talking to his owner about our common interest - as well as putting the world to rights :)
