Carson Things to Do

  • Take a ride on the Goodyear Blimp

The Goodyear blimp, Spirit of America, is headquatered in Carson. I've heard you can schedule rides on the blimp when they become available, but you need to be very lucky or know someone that works for Goodyear to find out when rides are available. You can watch it come in for landings in the afternoons. The park across from the golf course and the...

  • Great pastries and empanadas!

Red Ribbon is a Philippine bakeshop, famous for its pastries and hot foods: lumpia (egg rolls--fried or fresh/not fried); pancit (noodles) and dessert drinks (shakes, jiuces, etc.)There are several locations in the San Francisco Bay area, San Gabriel Valley, South Bay (Carson), and San Diego.Red Ribbon makes great special occasion cakes with...

  • Delicious breads and desserts....

Valerio's Tropical Bakeshop specializes in pan de sal--the typical Filipino bread/dinner roll. They have regular and whole-wheat pan de sal. They also have several varieties of "stuffed" pan de sals:* corned beef hash (my personal favorite)* adobo (a Filipino pork or chicken stew made with soy sauce, garlic, and vinegar)* menudo* chicken asada* ube...

  • Good place for a bug or rock

Until halfway through lunch today, this was a weekly lunch spot for myself. That was until I found a bug in my tostada; while my lunch partner bit down on a small rock that had been in her tostada.I understand these things occassionally happen but manager wouldn't re-make items. After he cleared less-than-half-eaten meals, we were handed bill that...

  • Good Food

We came here during dinner hours but i was told that they are open for lunch as well. The place is nice, very classy. The service is good and the food is very tastey!Rob and Marisela had the Kob Burgers served with shoestring fries. At first I thought "why get a burger in a place like this?" but after I tried it, it was GOOD GOOD GOOD! Manny had...

  • Ono Hawaiian Food!

At Back Home in Lahaina, you really feel like you were back in Lahaina, Maui. The painted murals makes you feel like you were walking around Front Street or you were right on the harbour watching whales and the ships go by... Of course, the lau lau and lomis are a must but, I must say that the Lahaina Fried Chicken is the best I've ever tried! You...

The city does a good job of bringing the community together on Martin Luther King Day. Children from the city's schools and other local talents perform music, songs, and dances. This is held at the Carson Mall (also called the South Bay Pavillion) on Avalon between Dominguez St and Del Amo Blvd.

The cities diversity can be seen in the City council (comprised of Blacks, Whites, Hispanics, Samoans, Hawiians, and Philipinos).

Carson Warnings and Dangers

  • A little gang activity

Carson is mainly a middle class working community. But like most cities in the L.A. area there is a little gang activity. I would not worry about it at all if you were visiting the area, unless you are from a rival gang I guess. I have not seen one gang fight or disturbance since we've moved here. Don't believe all the urban legends about being...

  • Take care where you park

Make sure you turn on your auto's alarm and that it has a blinker that shows would be jackers, not to mess with your car. Remove the face plate on all CD Players and Stereos as well as hide all CDs from view when parking in uncrowded areas. I've had my car broken into twice.

If you live in Carson, THIS is a must. I've been to Mami King, Chow King, Manila Sunrise, Jollibee,...I'm surprised that I haven't screwed up my blood pressure and cholesterol...yet.

I've lived in Carson pretty much all my life, so I will write more Off the Beaten Path stuff.

  • Carson Batting Cages: Swing away!

This is my absolute favorite place to go for a half hour of exercise, stress relief, and just plain fun. I think it costs about 25 cents for 8 balls. You can also arrange to reserve a particular cage for blocks of time (e.g., 30 minutes, 1 hour, etc.)I keep my bat and gloves in the trunk of my car and stop by whenever I have a hankering to just...
