Carson is mainly a middle class working community. But like most cities in the L.A. area there is a little gang activity.
I would not worry about it at all if you were visiting the area, unless you are from a rival gang I guess. I have not seen one gang fight or disturbance since we've moved here. Don't believe all the urban legends about being shot if you wear the wrong color--it won't happen here. Also don't believe most of the hype, Compton is not even as bad as they portray in the media. I think you'd have to worry about getting a speeding ticket more than gang violence when visiting Carson.
But people are always curious, so here are the known sets in Carson:
Bloods: Center View Piru, Calas Park Loks, Samoan Warrior Bounty Hunters, Cabbage Patch Piru, & Scottsdale Piru
Crips:
190th East Coasts, East Side DAWGS, Stevenson Village Crips, Victoria Park Crips. TMHs, and DGaFs
If you are researching L.A. Bloods & Crips check out www.streetgangs.com--where I found most of this info.
Make sure you turn on your auto's alarm and that it has a blinker that shows would be jackers, not to mess with your car. Remove the face plate on all CD Players and Stereos as well as hide all CDs from view when parking in uncrowded areas. I've had my car broken into twice.
