Edgewater Now Known, Again, as Sheerwater!: A Place To Splurge!

Walking along the backside of the Hotel Del you'll see a short wall that fences off a section full of green umbrellas perched over patio tables, heaters, they've added fireplaces and lots of people dining. This was Sheerwater, now called Edgewater.

    Update:

Seems the name has changed back to Sheerwater. It has a different view because the tennis courts gave way to a lovely beach front lawn. Still in the same spot, with great food so guess it doesn't matter what it's called. A meal is expensive but worth the price, the food is good, service accommodating and the view is spectacular!

In the days before the latest renovations, the tennis courts were just across the walk way and that was all one could see while dining here. They have moved the tennis courts further north and created a lovely park area with a direct view of the Pacific Ocean and in the background, on a clear day Point Loma is visible.

Inside dining is available, for those of you who rather not enjoy the ocean breeze and panoramic view, though there windows to sit next to if the view is important to you.

Sheerwater serves, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and afternoon tapas, which are not, I think, what one expects from a tapas bar. As the Hotel Del is "kid-friendly," Sheerwater offers a nice children's menu also.

Favorite Dish: Lunch is what I usually eat here--remember the prices on the lunch menu are usually lowered for the same item served at dinner. California Coastal Cuisine is the style of cooking to expect.

Depending on my mood, these are the items of the lunch menu I've had.

A Cobb salad is large enough for even an American to fill-up on. (About $16.00)

The Monte Christo Sandwich served with French fries or fruit is a sweet meal and more filling. (About $15.00)

The "Simply Prepared Fish of the Day" is another of my favorites. (Market Priced--which means that it depends on the fish used, and can be more expensive.)

Of course, I start off with a delicious Bloody Mary and sometimes add a glass of wine to the meal. Wines by the glass are more expensive here and the only one on the Wine List--served by the glass--that I like is Beringer White Zinfandel, it is the lowest price, $6.00 so that should give you a clue.

    Sheerwater

Sheerwater is the Hotel del Coronado's oceanfront restaurant featuring expansive outdoor dining terraces and giant fireplaces.

Sheerwater offers California coastal cuisine: regional specialties that emphasize bold flavor, tantalizing spices and seasonally inspired menus.

The bar offers signature margaritas, blended tropical drinks and California's premier wines. Serving breakfast, lunch, cocktails, afternoon tapas and dinner daily.

Favorite Dish: Hmm... expensive area: just Fresh Brewed Coffe ($1.95 + tax).

    But if... I would choose:
    1. Mediterranean salad (baby spinach, frisee, radicchio, focaccia, balsamic dressing) $6.50
    2. Charbroiled Angus Filet Mignon (braised shortrib, gratin potato, young vegetables, california cabernet reduction) $23.50
    3. Glass of white wine: Robert Mondavi "La Famiglia", Pinot Grigio from Napa Valley in California $8.00
    4. Key Lime Pie (red berry coulis) $6.25
    5. Cafe Coronado (what's that?) $6.25

    Good choice?
    Hmm... $50,5 + tax + tip = $70?
I'd rather go to the ZOO + Wild Animal Park ($52.65) + Sea World ($89) but...
