Hotel Del Coronado Restaurants and Bars: Noshing and Tippling at the Del
Having lunch or a drink at America’s legendary hotels can make you feel like a million bucks even if you don’t have it, and you can certainly do that at the Del. The roster of bars and restaurants range from wear-your-church-clothes fine dining to casual outdoor decks for the shorts-and-flip-flops crowd, with a few in between. And like everything else at this historic old dame, there’s nothing “budget” about them. Lunch for two at Sheerwater, with a couple of drinks and tip, can easily run three figures, and Sunday brunch at the Crown Room is a staggering $80 pp. Mixed drinks at stately Babcock and Story, with its original 19th-century mahogany bar, run around $14, and a 12-oz, plastic cup of beer at the Sun Deck bar and Grill will set you back $7.50.
We split a chicken sandwich with fries on the Sun Deck, and with one beer and a coke the tab was $35. Ouch.
But it’s all about the experience, eh? That particular deck has a great view of the beach and glassed-in sides to keep the wind out so is a very nice spot for a sunset cocktail. Sightseeing families with children in tow can stop into Moo Time Creamery for a ($6+) cone, and honeymooning couples might choose ENO Pizzeria and Wine Bar (10” wood-fired pies $15 - $19, weekday wine or beer specials) for a romantic evening at one of the fire-pit warmed tables on the patio.
The hotel’s website includes menus for most of the restaurants but not for the Sun Deck, Cabana or B&S bars.

Sun Deck Bar and Grill: What a day for a day dream...
On the Sun Deck at the Hotel Del Coronado, umbrella covered tables and chairs are available for resting, having a drink ordered at the bar or to take a meal of hamburgers / hotdogs while enjoying an expansive view of the Pacific Ocean. This is one of the nicest places to spend time in the California sun.
Steps lead down to a pristine beach, protected with great boulders from the ebbing of the Pacific Ocean tides.
Favorite Dish: A Bloody Mary is my favorite.
Fare warning the grill offers little more than hamburgers and hotdog. No fries or salads to go with them.
It seems that for the summer months there will be a sunset dinner offered here too! This includes new items on the menu such as soup, salad, skewers as well as hamburgers and all that.
I haven't tried the dinner, but know the food will be excellent as well as the sunset view, so if you're near, give it a try.
The Sun Deck Bar and Grill: How much is it?
Enlarge my picture to see how much they are (in April 2003) - isn't it a little bit expensive? Hmm... location, location, location.
As I know you must add 7.5% sales tax to these prices (food is free of sales taxes but only food in stores/supermarkets) - am I wrong?
The Sun Deck Bar and Grill: Fast food by the beach
Not much choice but if you are hungry and you are not going to spend a fortune in restaurants of nearby Hotel Del Coronado...
Favorite Dish: Charbroiled Hamburger $7.50 + tax (chips included).
The Sun Deck Bar and Grill: Junior Menu
You can choose Junior Menu - enlarge my picture. Is it only for juniors? Who is that? Could I order this? I am definetely senior :-).
