Cycling / Walking, Coronado
Other than your own two feet, two wheels is the best way to get around the island. The backstreets of Coronado and adjoining 7-mile isthmus of Silver Strand are mostly flat, and lots of sidewalks and designated bike paths make it safe and easy for the young and not-so to peddle. Beach cruisers, tandems, mountain bikes, kid trailers and ride-along models, 4-wheel surreys and even electric bikes are available at any number of shops near the landing and around Orange Avenue, and some of them provide tours as well. Helmets and locks are usually included in the hourly fee.
Want to ride like a local? Rent one of the fat-tired, fat-seated retro models you’ll see all over town.
Coronado is small enough to walk around--if you like that sort of thing--I personally prefer driving my car, but it is possible to rent bikes, roller blades, and even these surrey cycles.
I've never tried it, but as often as I've been to Coronado and have seen people scooting around, I'd say it looks like great fun for kids and their adults! Try it!
