Favorite thing:
Artistic Expression is all over Costa Mesa. It is concentrated in the hip part of town- at The Camp, and The Lab off Bristol St, and in the downtown area where there are about a dozen art galleries, mostly of the contemporary kind. CM is really deserving of an official "art walk" in Orange county, but if you are an art enthusiast, you can venture your own self-tour.
Fondest memory:
Touring The Camp.
Very visually pleasing public art on the Camp grounds. It captures the beauty of nature and everyday objetcs in an eco-friendly environment.
Favorite thing: Just a tip for those who buck the trend of getting music solely on Ipod. For all of you music collectors, Second Spin is a cool place to check out a great variety of music (all genres are reprsented here. Also, There is a great selection of DVDs (movie, music performances, etc). The only O.C. Second Spin is located in the heart of Costa Mesa, along the chic Newport Blvd strip of various eccletic boutiques.
Favorite thing:
Garage sales!
Fondest memory:
This is just a tip for locals and any garage/estate/rummage sale bargain hunters. I have had particularly good luck with garage sales here. Costa Mesa has a nice range of residents with charming homes, expensive and otherwise, with quality items and bargains at garage sales to offer. In my experiences, I have found and bought household items and furniture.
Favorite thing:
1000 Step Beach is just south of Laguna Beach on PCH. It is one of the most beautiful albeit painful things to do on a Sunday morning!!
TracyNew72 and I often come down here and walk up and down - we just make sure we haven't got anything that requires getting out of a chair two days later!!
The scariest day was when a volleyball player was "running" the stairs at the same time as us - she bunny-hopped up them two at a time and then skipped down - until then we were feeling very virtuous!

.
This sign made me laugh - no roller skates, no high heel shoes, yet no bare feet??? What is a girl to do?!!
Favorite thing:
1000 Step Beach justifies the walk back up all those stairs!!
We occasionally meet parents coming down to retrieve their teenagers who have sneaked out and spent the night camping...
