Fontana's Italian Restaurant: An old favorite

Change is an intrinsic part of Silicon Valley. But Fontana's is one of those rare exceptions. We used to come here back in 1987 when it was just a 1-room restaurant with about 20 tables and a counter space where you could sit and watch as they prepared the food. Then several years later, they demolished that building and built a huge restaurant! The comfortable atmosphere remains along with a lot of the staff who have been with the restaurant since it opened back in 1984! Our favorite server was Jim who unfortunately passed away about a decade ago from cancer! But we do keep coming back! A couple of years back, they came out with a kids' menu. But otherwise their menu has not really changed from when they first opened. Real comfort indeed! Popular venue for romantic dinners also as over the course of the years, we've borne witness to several proposals... engagement not indecent! hahaha.
If you have a group of 6-8, request the round table in front of the huge fireplace in the main room.

Favorite Dish: Their Pollo Girarrosto (Roast Chicken serverd over a bed of linguine) is pretty good. They serve it now over spinach linguine... it used to be over a mix of egg & spinach linguine so if you can request it that way... it's better. Their Linguine Gamberoni (prawns over linguine in a zesty tomato sauce) is tasty and so is the Petto di Pollo Schiacciati (grilled chicken breast with prawns, mushroom ravioli, spinach & lemon butter sauce). But the real standouts for me are the desserts: Tartufo Nero is amazing! Think a solid ball of dark choc gelato covered in grated chocolate. It does come in a little pond of raspberry puree which I usually request without as I just love the other stuff. Then their Bocce Ball is wonderful and so is the Warm Apple Strudel. They used to bake their own bread which came out flaky & warm but now they just get it from a commercial bakery. It's still good especially when paired with the dip (like a creamy bruschetta) they serve it with.

OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE: Don't Miss The Bloomin Onions!!

The food is good! You get what you pay for! If what you enjoy is a restaurant that is quiet, Outback is not for you! It can be quite noisy at times. The service is always outstanding!!! My husband and I have been there several times and have never had bad service! Outback does get pretty busy though so it pays to call in ahead of time to get on their waitlist. If you do end up waiting an extended time the staff brings out snacks :)

Favorite Dish: My favorite's are the the Bloomin Onions, The Greenbeans, and The Steak! My husband enjoy's the the Bloomin Burger, Steaks, and Salads.

The Duke of Edinburgh: Excellent Fish and Chips!

The food is authentic British food. I am told that everything that decorated the restaurant is flown in from Britian. The enviroment is very relaxed on a normal day, but lots of energy on a game day. Great place to watch soccer...futbol. It is also a great place to celebrate Saint Patricks Day. Price will probably be around $20/person.

Favorite Dish: My favorite would definitly be the Fish and Chips. They offer a "Dukes Portion" or "Dutchess Portion" so you can choose the amount of food that is right for you. The Sheppards Pie is also great...be careful though...it comes out very hot!
