    No More Book Signings!

by lmkluque Updated Oct 14, 2012

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: As stated earlier, the Earth Song Book Store wais one of my favorite places in Del Mar. Occasionally they offered book signings and it was interesting to meet the author of a book, hear a bit about themseves and stories about actually writing the book. If you happen not to have their book with you, it was always possible to buy it at the store.

Usually the signings took place in the evenings and it was a fun way to meet other book lovers.

It seems that Earth Song Book Store has closed and Del Mar Arts & Gifts has opened it's doors at this location. I haven't been there yet but have heard from those who have shopped there that it is a mix of art work, mainly local and gifts that might appeal mostly to women.

Fondest memory: The friendly atmosphere at Earth Song Book Store and all it's interesting items for sale, some even within my budget, bring me coming back.

Sometimes they offer readings of poems, books and even Tarot cards! In general they are pretty community minded and an easy way to connect with the locals.

There may not be any book signings here these days but you might want to browse the store for anything that "speaks" to your special interests. I'd be interested in their blown glass items, pottery, wall art and maybe the sculptures.

    Book Signings. No More

    Powerhouse Building

    by matcrazy1 Updated Oct 19, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Located on Del Mar's beautiful coastline, the Powerhouse Building is a well-known landmark that has played interesting roles in the community during its lifetime. Built to provide the original Stratford Inn with electricity and hot water, the powerhouse provided electricity for all of Del Mar until 1918.
In subsequent years, the powerhouse was used as a nightclub (named the Roaring 20's) and as a desalination plant. After falling into disrepair, the Powerhouse was acquired by the City of Del Mar in 1983 as part of a purchase of the surrounding park area.
The preservation of the Powerhouse building and its transformation into a multi purpose community asset has long been a goal for the City of Del Mar.

Favorite thing: There is an ENVIRONMENT, of complete and Total, LOVE, here, which you will not, can't and won't find anywhere, else, in the world.

Fondest memory: I found LOVE, here, and was more greatly, enabled, thereby, to find the lovely, Spiritually-Given, person, for whom I have been searching Lo' these last 14 years.

    No Better Place on Earth!

by AirMikie Written Feb 10, 2005

Favorite thing: The climate is as good as it gets. Ok, the water could be warmer, but you can't have everything!

It's quiet and peaceful. Ok, except for the summer when the race track is open and all the "trakkies" are in town.

From mid-September through December we have the best weather anywere. January is usually overcast and rainy. Things get better again in March.

Forget about driving. The freeways are packed, and there's no place to park. So what... you're on vacation anyway, right?

Fondest memory: I'd tell you about my best memory of Del Mar, but this is supposed to be a G-rated website, right?

Favorite thing: Walk around Del Mar and take a look at many upscale houses whenever you are in Del Mar - some of them are impressive. I liked some of them very, very much :-)).
