Before Del Mar Plaza, before the Race Track, before the Resort Hotels even before the tent city there was the beach.
This stretch of coastline is a combination of flat sandy beach and craggy bluffs which adds to the charm. Activities at Del Mar beach include surfing, boogie boarding, swimming, sun bathing, picnicing and at certain times of the year you can bring your dog for a run in the water.
The city of Del Mar has more restrictions at their beach than other cities and parking is not free in all areas and often not easy to find.
Lifeguards are on-duty especially during the summer and weekends.
If you are in April there and if you accept a little cold water you can try - there were a few human sea lions that time :-).
Hmm... maybe you will find beach girls :-))) (hmm... no worry, dear female VT-ers: there are a lot of beach boys there as well, I am sure).
Or you can just sit down on white sand and watch around for... look at the next tip. Allowed for people of all age, I hope :-).
The blazing sun quickly tans in Del Mar even in April. So if you like it go. I - with my skin white like a flour that time - skipped it.
Today, the City of Del Mar is two square miles of coastal land with a population of about 5000. The main attraction of visitors is still the beach and sunny weather.
