From a business perspective, the McDonalds location in Downey California is somewhat of a national treasure. It is the oldest location of a franchise that spans the globe with over 31,000 locations. 31,000!!!! This McDonalds was orginally owned by the founding McDonald Brothers, not by the infamous Ray Kroc. So, in 1953, you could have eaten a burger here, as served to you by the innovators of fast food. Myself, I'm not a huge fast food fan at all, it makes people fat and lazy... but,I do recognize history, and this was a very, very cool place to find along my hungover route back home! The employees wear 50's uniforms, it is walk-up only, and everything around it seems to have been restored to the orignal operating equipment. There is also a museum on the side with some photos of how the store and chain came to be.

Favorite Dish: I ordered a 2 cheeseburger meal.

This is a real jewel of a find. Owner used to have a gourmet store, but transferred the skills into this local restaurant. All items like breads, sausages, and juice are made locally. Have breakfast here and you will come from far to do it again.

VERY clean, but not a fancy place - rather plain, and there may be a wait because it is small, but I've never waited more than 5 minutes.

Favorite Dish: Everything I have tasted is good, but I love the spinach omelette with a side of French toast.
My husband has had steak, as well as spaghetti with sausage (awesome and I'm not a sausage fan).
