One way to get to El Segundo is by a quick BCT bus. It departs from the LAX Transit Center and the Aviation Green Line Station. It's only about 10 min to get to the heart of El Segundo on the BCT 109. The bus runs throughout the day, until about 8-9 PM. Although the #109 has a tendency to run either a bit early and late (my experience), it is reliable and convenient.

Served by light rail trains, the 20-mile Metro Green Line runs between Norwalk and Redondo Beach. It operates in the middle of the I-105 Freeway until Aviation Bl. where the line turns south and continues on its own elevated structure. The stations are open-air platforms with canopies, accessible from the streets by elevators, escalators and stairs.

We caught the bus outside sizzler up to LAX and changed there to get to Santa Monica - it cost us $1.50 in total and the buses ran frequently. There were also buses running south but we used the one ran by the Hacienda Hotel. We didn't have any problems getting around without a car.
One of the best ways to get to El Segundo is to take the Metro Green line that has several stops along the south bay area. The one here is of the Mariposa station which is where the Hilton Garden Inn (see hotels) is located. The cost is small and the ride is smooth so why put up with the traffic when someone else can drive. You will even get to see so much more as most of the tracks are elevated.
The hotels in the area have shuttles that will take you where you want or need to go and most are free. The Hilton had an awesome shuttle service that took us all to the beach and then picked us up 5 hours later. They were fast and very friendly.
Be warned that some hotels do charge a small fee for this service (not Hilton)
