El Segundo Things to Do

  • ESMoA - Art Laboratory

ESMoA is more of an art laboratory than a traditional museum, it holds three Experiences (i.e., exhibits) each year that include paintings, sculptures and video/digital works from various time periods and regions. Each Experience is built around a question or theme that will allow viewers to create their own connections and...

  • Recreation Park

This park is on Grand Avenue near the downtown area. It is where you will find most offices of the El Segundo Recreation Department. There are tennis courts, basketball courts, and places to play racquetball, roller hockey and lawn bowling. Looked like a nice place to just relax too.

  • Architecture

There are a few buildings in El Segundo that are of historical and/or architectural interest. Two of my favorites are this neat church and the El Segundo High School.

  • Great Food at My Hotel

The décor was nothing to get excited about; but the waiters looked fancy in dress shirts and ties. The menu was varied with seafood and some European dishes. Carrasco's is associated with the Hacienda Hotel. My Sole Stuffed with Crab Meat was quite good. $15 as of October 2012. Sole Stuffed with Crabmeat.

  • Great Seafood

The decor was not so great but the service was quick and the food excellent. They advertise that they serve only hormone-free chicken, fresh seafood, and NO trans-fat. Best food I had in town. I had Clam Chowder and Cajun Grilled Catfish with a side of Rice Pilaf and fruit salad; it was all very good. $20 as of October 2012. Great Cajun Catfish!...

  • Good Music and Beer

Nice place to sit on the patio, listen to the music, and eat bar style food (burgers, pizza, fish and chips). They also have a number of types of beer available. Décor includes a number of posters of Rock and Rollers from the 70s and 80s (think Rolling Stones, Led Zepplin and Motley Crue), and a poster for Wounded Warriors. Since it was Halloween...

The guy behind the bar was an older Mexican-American gentleman in western attire. Tuesday Night was dance night and several couples were dancing Country & Western style and a few slow dances. • Metro Green line

One of the best ways to get to El Segundo is to take the Metro Green line that has several stops along the south bay area. The one here is of the Mariposa station which is where the Hilton Garden Inn (see hotels) is located. The cost is small and the ride is smooth so why put up with the traffic when someone else can drive. You will even get to see...

  • Get here via LAX area

One way to get to El Segundo is by a quick BCT bus. It departs from the LAX Transit Center and the Aviation Green Line Station. It's only about 10 min to get to the heart of El Segundo on the BCT 109. The bus runs throughout the day, until about 8-9 PM. Although the #109 has a tendency to run either a bit early and late (my experience), it is...

We caught the bus outside sizzler up to LAX and changed there to get to Santa Monica - it cost us $1.50 in total and the buses ran frequently. There were also buses running south but we used the one ran by the Hacienda Hotel. We didn't have any problems getting around without a car.

El Segundo Warnings and Dangers

  • You will be warned....

I have never been warned about so much, or so often, as I was during my visit to California. The cynic in me says that having visible warnings everywhere reduces the chances of people suing.Anyway...read the info in these photos and you too can be thoroughly warned. And don't break any fish, ok?

    more
  • Warning signs

Law here in America requires each hotel to post warnings about fire and emergency plans and each hotel you stay at has different ways to post the warnings. Take a few minutes to read the warnings and always check your escape route. Let us hope you never need to use it but you never know if you are going to need it.

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The parking lot at the beach stinks and is way to expensive.
They charge $6 per visit to park or you can use the meters that are there. Most of them are gone at the weekend.

If you use the ticket machines and select to cancel the action you will get a ticket for credit. Only problem is ... there is no place to get the cash.

Unique Suggestions: There is a place just up Grand blvd. that you can park for free and walk down to the beach.

Fun Alternatives: Go during the weekdays and park... do not pay.

As I was wandering along Main Street, past El Segundo's City Hall (that's such an oddity for me...a small....population around 16500....settlement being called a 'city'), I noticed these stones set into the pavement (sidewalk). Each had a small story to tell. I don't know why they are there. I've tried to find out, but have failed so far. I assume...

The downtown streets of El Segundo ...and even those in the surrounding business district...have what I considered to be a remarkable (and unexpected) number of trees, some of which are clearly well-established and of a decent age.And the yards of many of the houses seemed to me to show a love of gardening which I must admit I had not expected to...
