Martini Ranch has two locations in Encinitas, one in downtown and this one, on the Coast Hwy 101. This one is less crowded than it's downtown couterpart and still enjoyable. The clientele spans all types of people from those in their 20's to those in their 40's that all have a good time dancing to the live music during the evening, and then to the DJ spinning dance hits from variuos time periods, way into the night. The dancefloor was crowded with just the right amount of people looking to have a good time. [ Not the classiest crowd ... ] .
Although the place is called Martini Ranch, martinis had very imaginative names but either all used cheap bad tasting vodka [ and I know vodka ] or other low quality liquer making them taste terrible. Even a vodka martini with olives, which I ordered with the thought that it would perhaps erase the taste of the melange of crappy alcohol from my palate, wasn't good.
I had a good time at this place anyway. Bring a date ... or find one here.
Dress Code: Have some class and wear nice shoes if you're a guy.
I had the Atomic Orange, Wet 'n Blue, Viking and Belvedere Martinis ... they all tasted bad ... how can you mess up a Belvedere martini?
Oh yeah ... don't drink and drive ... take a cab.
Okay, you can try the local bar on First Street (Highway 101). Maybe you read about it recently. It's where one of the Secret Service agents got their teeh knocked out (literally) after insulting a local Encinitas woman.
Usually, it's uneventful. You can get some good music at the southern end in Cardiff at the Kraken. How about a nice quiet drink overlooking the ocean at the Beach House? There's Yogi's sports bar in Cardiff just east of the railroad tracks. Indigo Joe's is another sports bar. It's located in New Encinitas near Encinitas Blvd & El Camino Real. There are several other places.
Dress Code: Dress code? Are you kidding? This is the beach. Of course, some sort of shirt and shoes are required. If you want to get dressed up (you don't have to be well dressed), go to the Beach House or Charley's on Highway 101 in Cardiff. Anywhere else, you'll look somewhat out of place wearing a tie.
