Heed the Signs!
The beaches in Encinitas range from flat, white sands to rocky cliffs. Some sections are swim only and some are surf only. There are standardized signs & flags to let beachgoers know what is and is not allowed.
Reading the Flags:
Red - Beach is closed.
Yellow - Caution, potential dangers.
Green - Safe waters for swimming.
Orange - Lifeguard Not on duty.
Blue - There are hazard or danger. Ask lifeguard for details.
Blackball (black circle surrounded by a yellow background) - Hard surfboards are not allowed.
Rules, Regulation and Warning signs are posted at various spots along the beach. This one warns that the cliffs are unstable and anyone trying to climb up or down can easily be thrown onto the rocks below.
