San Pasqual Battlefield State Historic Park is only a mile from the San Diego Wild Animal Park so if you are there you should see both places. There is a nice museum there that teaches about the battle and a trail to hike on the hill behind the museum. This huge stained glass window is in the museum.
Thought it was interesting that the American forces were beaten and surrounded by the Mexican forces. When the Mexican forces were called home to Mexico the Americans claimed it was their victory because they were the last ones on the field in spite of having much greater losses.

Saw many different animals at the San Diego Wild Animal Park. What better symbol of California and my trip there than this California Condor. It was first time in my life I ever saw a California Condor. Did not know at the time that I would soon see a condor in the wild at the Grand Canyon.
The Wild Animal Park seems to have breeding hoofed animals as it's main function. The animals are in large natural looking enclosures and obviously recieve excellent care. The Park staff seemed proud of the success of their animal husbandry programs.
To see the large hoofed animals it is necessary to ride a monorail vehicle and listen to a guide. I'd suggest you do that first thing when you arrive in the park. As the day gets longer so do the lines for the monorail ride.

Exactly what the title says! Petting Zoo.. Pet away! I love this place, I couldve pet these animals all day long.

You can't go to Escondido and miss the Wild Animal Park!Go at early evening and you'll have a much better chance of seeing more animals.
