    Yoshinoya: Drive Through Japanese Food

by atufft Written Mar 12, 2008

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

In Fontana, any and all global franchises seem to be present, and so even the Japanese have an establishment there. On my third attempt to find a decent but cheap dinner in Fontana, I walked by this chrome and cut glass establishment, hoping to find fast food sushi. Unfortunately, insted I found sticky rice covered on one side by small bony chunks of teriyaki chicken. Covering the rice in the middle was some overcooked calliflower, and on the other end, some wads of thinly sliced beef. I had an iced tea and a factory sealed cup of flan for dessert. There's a drive through window, but I didn't use it. Rather, I went inside to the counter that was staffed by California young adults.

Casa Sanchez: Fine Quality Mexican Food

by atufft Written Mar 12, 2008

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

After walking several flat miles on the pavement of Fontana, I ended up at the Sierra Ave. address of Casa Sanchez. The menu is on a lecture outside the restaurant, and inside the walls are nicely decorated in a Mexican motif. The lights are not bright. The chips and salsa came promptly. The chips probably were not made at the restaurant. The salsa was though, as it was a decent traditional style sauce with soft chunks of tomatoes and not overly spicy. I ordered a glass of horchata, and an la carte dinner of a green salad, soft shell tacos, and fried rice. The restaurant was quite as it was a Wednesday night, so I had the excellent service of two waitresses.

China Bowl: Non-Corporate Chinese Fast Food

by atufft Written Mar 12, 2008

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

On the first night, I wandered down Valley Blvd, toward it's junction with Sierra Blvd. Among the seemingly hundreds of familiar fast food logos that lit up the night sky, I came across this humble restaurant. I ordered fried rice, with brocoli beef, and barbequed chicken. The food was surprisingly fresh and well made.

    Clearman's North Woods Inn Restaurant
    (Covina, CA.)
The atmosphere is that of a large snow-covered log cabin in
the 1800's, decorated with hurricane lamps, beautiful paintings and crushed peanut shells on the floor, it is a perfect place to celebrate a birthday or anniversary.
Which I have been continually doing with my family for 35 years now!

Favorite Dish: It's the Green Salad with House Dressing, Red-Cabbage Salad and their famous Cheesebread which keep me returning countless times, over and over again.
