The City of Fontana is located in southern California, in the USA. We sit at the intersection of Interstate 10 and 15 and State Routes 66 and 30. Metrolink rail service to the greater Los Angeles area runs through the center of town, and we are only 10 minutes away from Ontario International Airport.
Fontana is close to the mountains, beaches, several lakes and desert areas. We are just a short jaunt to 12 County of San Bernardino regional parks. The California Speedway is located just west of Fontana's border. Fontana is home to the Fontana Days Half Marathon and 5 k run. This race is on record as the fastest half marathon course in the world.
Fontana has one golf course and another under construction. Sierra Lakes Golf Course is located at the base of the San Bernardino Mountains. Sierra Lakes Golf Club is a new 18-hole, championship golf course designed by Ted Robinson, internationally acclaimed golf course architect. The par 72, 6,805-yard layout is a premiere daily fee, public golf facility offering golfers affordable golf in a country club setting.
Fontana offers quality, affordable housing. Six major home builders have projects under construction. There are 11 colleges and universities in the immediate area.
These two truck companies each generate more than a couple billion in annual revenue, and each deploys more than fifteen thousand tractor trailer combinations across the USA. Both Schneider and Swift, as well as CR England, KLLM, and many more recruit and train drivers in Fontana. Why not visit a terminal and sign up?
From 1928 to 1965, Fontana had the first and only US Agriculture Department laboratory for the care and breeding of rabbits. An old timer from the senior citizen center came out and explained a few things. He said that at one time rabbits were researched for their possible value in animal husbandry. Quality and volume of meat, fur, leather, etc. were all studied. The main experimental building was heavily reconstructed for the city's senior center, but in back there is a rather diplapidated structure that appeared to be a rabbit warren. Nearby I found a patch of California poppy's in bloom. Also nearby on the 5 acre property, the Fontana Horseshoe Club and a community garden.
Fontana's history goes back to 1913, but from its architecture the downtown area, where there's parallel parking and a single lane of cars in each direction, Fontana appears to have it's roots in the 1930's and later. The city hall is a fine mission revival style structure, and I saw an art deco theater under restoration. Otherwise, the downtown is mostly very conventional strip of small businesses line by a sidewalk and row of sizeable trees. We did just a quick drive through, so use your imagination with these images.

ONE OF THE LARGEST INDOOR SHOPPING MALLS WITH LOTS OF STORES, ENTERTAINMENT, 50+ MOVIE SCREENS, LOADS OF GREAT RESTAURANTS. a PRETTY COOL PLACE FOR A TOURIST VISIT, AND GOOD ENOUGH FOR THE LOCALS TO RETURN TO FREQUENTLY
Fontana is the home of the California Speedway, where
NASCAR racing is the main event. Update: NEW AT THE SPEEDWAY...California Dragway is opening in the Summer of 2002, for street racing, which has been expected for some time. Nearby, there is an
extensive outlet mall for shopping at Ontario Mills,
which is a couple of miles west of the speedway...off
of the 10 frwy at Milliken. A spectacular golf course,
Empire Lakes, is just a block or two north of the mall,
and the mountain resorts, beaches and deserts are about
an hour away in each direction.
Basically, there is something nearby for everyone to enjoy...theaters, shopping, restaurants, golfing, and
car racing events, to name just a few~ and the nearby
airport in Ontario has several first rate hotels, as
does Rancho Cucamonga to the north. At the Ontario Mills
Mall...I can recommend Chevy's for mexican food, the
Rainforest Cafe, for an atmosphere which is interesting
for both kids and adults...(when we were there, my son
asked the waiter for a 'bloody mary', and they went out
of their way to see that they got the little tyke some V-8
juice!) A Wolfgang Puck's Restaurant is also at this mall.
There is a Dave & Busters Restaurant, which has an
addictive video game arcade within the premises, and
it is loads of fun for adults and kids.
