Besides the spectacular coastline and flora, there are also great tide pool and bird watching opportunities here. Seals, sea lions, and whales can often be spotted off shore. But, please stay on the trail. Don't walk across the bluff flora to watch wildlife.

The 1940's Academy Award Winner Johnny Belinda, which featured Jane Wyman as a deaf girl, was shot on location at Belinda Point. The set is mostly gone, but the pond and natural setting remain. Access to Belinda Point is south of the main bridge, and difficult to find, so this place is a good off the beaten path bluff to visit but it remains one of the must see places in Fort Bragg. The initial part of the walk is through a carefully restored natural woodland, grasses, and flowers--adjacent to private property--so please don't trash the place or pick flowers.

Although crowded with tourists, this is a must see place in Fort Bragg as these images testify. Further up the coast, new housing also testifies to the growing popularity of Fort Bragg generally speaking.

Glass Beach is on the northern end of town. Turn right at the Denny's and follow your nose to the beach. It's a very popular place to go, and as a result the famed glass is now disappearing. Originally, the cove and beach were a dump where discarded metal and bottles were carelessly dumped. Then, the beach was cleaned up, but the broken glass remained and became worn smooth by wave action. Some rusty steel I-beams and twisted railroad rails are still part of the landscape. Until recently, the popularity of the particle glass resource was such that folks took the glass away by the bucket. There is lots of artwork sold around town that incorporates the glass fragments. Now, the beach is designated an "archeological preserve", and so it's actually illegal to take the glass fragments away. Nevertheless, the beach is poorly patrolled and tourists are faithfully cleaning up the beach such that soon it will be "glass beach" in name only. Even so, this is a beautiful seascape of tide pools, bluffs, and beach. Dogs on lease are allowed here.

This harbor is featured in the movie "Overboard" and is even more beautiful in person. It's a great place to watch the harbor seals and fishing boats. You can charter fishing boats, head out whale watching, or rent a kyack from here. Links to charter companies are on the contact website. There are also several nice restaurants with great views of the harbor.

Noyo Harbor is where Fort Bragg's fishing boats are based. And it has good seafood. This is a nice fishing village; you can enjoy yourself just watching the boats come and go. Chartered fishing tours are available. Check the website below.
Walking down to it from downtown is hazardous, as there are no sidewalks. The road is narrow, too. Better to drive.

Ft Bragg's downtown has numerous small museums, cafes, and shops. This picturesque coastal community is an interesting place to visit for a few hours. This town once had a thriving timber industry, and fishing as well. Today, tourism plays an increasing role in the economy.

These gardens were founded by Ernest and Betty Schoefer in 1961. The state acquired them in 1992, and transferred them to the Mendocino Coast Recreation and Park District. A non-profit organization operates them today.
This is a horticultural paradise. Covering 47 acres, it has examples of plants from all over. Habitats included manicured gardens, woodlands, a canyon, wetlands, and the seacoast. Not just for green thumbs--it's great for quiet, relaxing walks and simply getting away from it all.

With Miles of State Parks and beautiful scenery to explore there are a few rules about bringing your dog.
There are NOT any off-leash dog areas. Mendocino County also has a leash law. To avoid a fine and assure your pet's safety near the water or in the woods you need to leash your dog!
If you would like to leave your pet for the day while you play at the beach , there are several Pet Boarding Facilities in the area.
The Vet's in the area coordinate their off-hours, holidays and weekends to be available. Their answering service will state which Veternairian is on duty.
