There is a place where I love to go and see the sun set over San Francisco....The crnelias room, located in the tallest building on the financial district...allway full but most of the people have one drink and moves on so if you are willing to wait it is no usualy too long before a table opens.
Fondest memory: View from the Carnelias room and a menue of drinks...enjoy.
Union square where my hotel was the second time I visited Frisco. I stayed at the Westin Saint Francis Hotel
335 Powell Street at Geary Street
very conveniently located right in the city center.
From there you can explore the Wharf, Pier 39 with lots of shops and restaurants and Ghiradelli Square.
Ghiradelli is the famous chocolate factory
Of course one cannot miss the notorious sea lions at the end of Pier 39 where you can sea far away the famous 'bad-reputated' Alcatraz-prison Island. Unfortunately I didn't have time to go there and visit the ROCK.
I visited San Francisco, LA and San Diego. I like LA, but I love San Francisco: beautiful houses and views...
Fondest memory: San Francisco: Union Square and walk in the streets.
Route Number 1 , driving along the Parcific, stopping for lunch on the beach.
If you are coming to California, you totally have to go to San Francisco. There is always alot of people there. but it is a great place to visit. Pier 39 is a good place to go. Lots of stores, a little expensive, but way worth it. There is a great view of Alcatraz for there and Angel Island as well.
If you see the Golden Gate bridge at night, you will be amazed. It is totally beautiful, and you don't even need to see it at night to think that. If you go to Vista Poiny, which is at the Northern end of the GGB, you can see the whole city. At night, the lights from the cars on the bridge and the lights from the city twinkle like stars. It is amazing.
Fondest memory: My favorite part of living in Cali is the weather. In the summer, the beaches are great, its nice to get out of the city and go down to the beach and smell the ocean air and just feel the cool breaze.

Go to San Francisco! This city is so diverse and unique that it's impossible to describe in this forum. You have to ride a cable car, skate through golden gate park, go to alcatraz, chinatown, fishermans wharf, pier 39, buy a fresh loaf of the famous sourdough bread and drink a bottle of wine by the beach. See lombard street (the crookedest street in the world)
Fondest memory: growing up here. there are too many memories to state a fondest, but I remember backpacking in Yosemite as a teenager and the bears came into our camp and took one of the kids food. They are not afraid of humans and you have to be careful. put your food in a sack and tie it off on a high tree limb.
You must visit San Francisco. Plan to spend at least two days there to see everything from China Town to Fishermans Wharf, to Pac Bell Park to the Golden Gate.
Fondest memory: I love to watch a California sunset, as the big ball drops below the ocean, or the fog rolling in to virtually cover all of the Golden Gate Bridge.
SHOP IN AND AROUND UNION SQUARE. RIDE THE CABLE CARS. SPEND THE DAY AT THE BEACH IN THE MARINA DISTRICT. WALK ACROSS THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE. VISIT THE BOTANICAL GARDENS IN GOLDEN GATE PARK. SPEND THE DAY IN SALSALITO EATING AND SHOPPING.
Fondest memory: WE MISS HOW PRETTY IT IS WITH ALL THE PASTEL COLORED HOUSES AND PALM TREES.

Far away, the feared *Alcatraz - Jail*!
These are all MUST-DOs: the Powell-Hyde Cable Car ride from the base of Powell Street through Union Square, Nob and Russian Hills.
