  • Great Barbecue!

The very last thing my family could expect to find out in the shores of Northern California was the best barbecue we have ever eaten. Even when we have learned that Bones Roadhouse's barbecue pit was a J&R imported from Mesquite, Texas we were still more inclined to order some seafood. What a heck, we were at Highway One, by the sea!We were...

  • Great Barbecue

I am leaving this tip here for the moment because I am not sure what the future holds but am adding a proviso. The place a little while ago moved down the road and, unfrotunately, I just read in the newspaper, in September 2009, that it recently burnt to the ground. It is not clear if it will be rebuilt. Therefore, as of September 2009 it is not...

    Surf Supermarket: Supermarket!

by Caitlinette Written Jul 13, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Busy, bustling supermarket. They do outdoor barbeques in the parking lot in the summer. All their deli meats are free of additives and nitrates, their chicken is free-range, and they use healthy canola oil in their deep-fried deli foods.

They have a big selection of seafood and meat, a new salad and soup bar, produce, huge refrigerator section, hardware, wine, and all the staples for travelers.

    What to buy: Organic food!

  • Did I say harbor seals?

In this calm and cozy cove, two harbor seals flirted with us for half an hour. They'd bob about, always looking to us and ocassionaly barking. Then they'd dive and twirl and bob back to the surface to coax us towards them. The cliffs were steep and our legs unstable from the previous nights delicious wine, so we were forced to enjoy them from a...

  • Look but don't take

At least, don't take things that are alive. This is the cast off shell of a sea urchin that has moved on (died?). A memento of my trip, now sitting on my desk. It didn't hurt anything, though... the urchin was long gone.

  • Sea life galore

This coast line is known for its abundance of sea life. This is where people go diving for abalone, where great white sharks breed, where harbor seals, stellar sea lions, california sea lions and otters come to play.
