The old county courthouse, now used as offices and a visitor centre, is a beautiful somewhat mixed Neo-Classical/Romanesque Revival building located on a shady square in the centre of town. It is nicely restored and pleasant to visit.

The Hanford Fox Theatre was opened during Christmas 1929 and dominated the holiday news. It was built by Wiiliam Fox of Fox Theaters in 1929, and is one of 800 Fox Theaters across the United States. The Hanford Fox Theater is very atmospheric, and was designed to create the illusion of being located in a romantic far-off place. The locale is a Spanish courtyard, complete with twinkling stars and crecent moon in a dark night sky. There are tile covered buildings with lighted windows, balconies and turrets, silhouetted and backlighted by the glow of a village beyond. The theater has 1239 seats, including a balcony appropriatly called The Cabaret. The theater host Live concerts as well as silent movies and some special holiday treats at Christmas and Easter. I would encourage you to take a bit of time during your visit to see this wonderful peice of Hanfords history.

Hanford is famous for Superior Dairy Ice Cream. It is a local ice cream parlor and they make their own ice cream right there. It is a sin not to try it when you are here. It is local and down home. You get friendly service as soon as you walk in and it never stops until you leave, completely stuffed. Try the sundaes or the banana split, but beware, one split is enough for at least 3 people. Have fun and enjoy every bite...

This is a wonderful old ice cream parlour that has been here since the 1920s. It still has its old pressed metal ceiling, old brass chandeliers, etc., and serves old-style ice cream dishes, sandwiches, and the like. It is, naturally, right in the heart of town across the street from the town square.

The renowned Imperial Dynasty Restaurant, with its warm, welcoming ambiance and superb. award winning cuisine is accesible Tuesdays through Sundays from 4:30pm.. The menu is wonderful with a mouth watering variety of flavors. The Dynasty balances tradition with trend in featuring its high quality continental cuisine of meats, poultry and seafood prepared with the various classic sauces based in butter, wine, cream, stocks, and herbs. Complete dinners from the menu range from $10.00 to $30.00, not including, of course, favorite selections from the lounge or special requests from the famous, well stocked wine cellar. Contained within the walls of the Imperial Dynasty Restaurant are museum quality Chinese artifacts and treasures. Although surrounded with Chinese antiquity, the Imperial Dyansty does not serve Chinese style cuisine, only superb continental style offerings.

The Imperial Dynasty, in China Alley
Owned by the Wing family for over 125 years, people come from all over the world to eat here. Ask to see the ladies' room upstairs - it's part of the old apartment where the family lived. The basement has a world-class wine cellar and a banquet room with Richard Wing's collection of jade.
Favorite Dish: *Escargots - absolutely the best ever!
*Coconut Ice Cream - if they have it (it's made especially for them by Superior Dairy, another Hanford must)

Address: Located in China Alley
Photo Equipment: This place is so flat, and there is so much beautiful country. Sunsets/Landscapes are ideal & quaint in Hanford.
Miscellaneous: Bring a swimsuit in the summer (it's super hot!) and an umbrella in the wintertime! The fog is horribly thick!

I heard there was bird watching in the area, but I'm not quite sure where it is. Also, research info on the Mussell Slough Massacre (not too far from my old neighborhood) which actually made it into my H.S. history book!
