Casa Grande is the Largest of the four Casas in the Enchanted Hill portion of the Hearst Castle and tours three and four will also take you to three other Casas (the Casa Del Monte and Casa Del Mar and Casa Del Sol) but unfortunately, I did not have time to do tours three and four and I don;t want to do tour one which I did 21 years ago. The Duplex Bedrooms in Casa Grande are unique rooms located in the mezzanine area of the Casa Grande and are stylish pieces of artsy bedrooms that gave architect Julia Morgan Headaches on how to design them since Hearst was always trying to reconfigure the concept for the rooms (the rich people are eccentric remember). They are two level twin beds...

San Simeon Liquor and Wine Cellar: San Simeon Mini Mart

San Simeon only has about 3 mini marts being just a small hamlet (it is actually just a hamlet and not a town) and this is one of the 3 mini marts, serving Assorted Liquors and Beers and off course lots and lots of junk food like corn chips, potato chips and other stuff and the best thing is that it is open up to 10:00 pm and if you want to buy a quick grub or buy wine or beer for some social drinking in your motel room then this is the place to buy it. the mini mart is about a quarter mile walk from the Days Inn San Simeon Hotel. I've included this nightlife tip at Hearst Castle San Simeon State Park since the Castle is located in San Simeon.

opens 7:00 am to 10:00 pm daily.

What to buy: beers like budwieser will cost $ 12 for a six pack, whisky like tennesse whisky will cost $ 10 a bottle and local wines from Paso Robles area will cost $ 8 a bottle and for the snack, it will cost between $ 3 to 5 for a large bag of Tostitos or Nachos or potato chips.

Dress Code: none, this is just a Liquor Store with a Mini-Mart.

Hearst San Simeon State Historical Monument Warnings and Dangers

  • Fire in visitor center, and tourists...

When we were there, there was some sort of small fire at the visitor center. Here is what happened. We had finished our tour, and wanted to go inside the visitor center to take a leak, and charge my camera. A security guard showed up, and didn't tell us anything about a fire. He just started yelling at us, that we can't go this way. I told him...

Hearst San Simeon State Historical Monument Tourist Traps

  • Expensive Tickets

At $20 per ticket (and 10 for children) for a short tour, a visit to the castle can get expensive if you go on multiple tours or have several people in your party. You will need to go on a couple to see all that is available for viewing. I have mixed feelings about posting this as tourist trap as I assume the Park Service uses the proceeds for...

I've have to say that staying in San Simeon is not ideal unless a person is determined to see all 4 tours in a short period of time, and therefore can't afford the 15 to 30 minute drive from Cambria, or Morro Bay. We stayed in pleasant and quite Morro Bay, which has moderately priced hotels with a view of the impressive rock, and charming fishing...
