    Ashley's Deli: Great Sandwich Deli

by Rachel Written Sep 15, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

They have great breakfast sandwiches and regular sandwiches and macaroni salad, potato salad, that kind of deli salad. I go there a lot after practice. They use really good Boar's Head brand meat, which is really good.

Favorite Dish: Turkey, salami and cheese on a roll with pickles and pepperoncinis with Italian dressing. YES! It's a good sandwich. The breakfast sandwiches are really good too. (You can get them all day.)

Pacific Room Cafe': Healthy, Fresh, Delicious

by Rachel Updated Sep 15, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I eat here once or twice a week and the food is healthy, fresh, and delicious. You really can't go wrong. And it's guilt free. That's how healthy it is! But not bland at all! I am a huge fan! Warning: this is a husband and wife team. It takes a while for the husband (who is otherwise great) to warm up to you. Don't be offended he's like that to everyone.

Favorite Dish: I think my favorite is chicken with broccoli and sh itake mushrooms. I get it medium spicy. It comes with white or brown rice. The brown rice is great..it's like sticky brown rice. And amazing salad. I don't know what it is, but it's amazing and the greens are organic to top it off. Sean's favorite chicken and garlic green beans. There are a lot of vegetarian options too for people who like that.

The Spot: We were oh so lucky to find this!

by dennyandconnie Updated Feb 5, 2005
    A very cheerful place!

Usually when we travel, we scout out the restaurant scene on the net, in guide books and at Virtual Tourist. However, on this occasion our flight had been delayed so we had about 10 hours to kill so we decided to see some of the beach towns near L.A. At lunch time we were in the Hermosa Beach area and began searching for a light lunch. Turning off the main drag Connie saw an interesting looking little restaurant so we thought that we would scope out the menu. Everything looked good and seeing the crowd inside we decided to give it a try.

We were greeted by Tanya, who were later discovered was the owner/chef. After a struggle with the extensive menu, we made our choices and were in heaven for the next 30 minutes. ALL WAS SUPERB!!!!!

Favorite Dish: If you are lucky enough to make it here try; MUSHROOM WALNUT LOAF
Vegetarian meatloaf with mushrooms, walnuts, brown rice & cheese (with eggs) covered with our mushroom gravy. Served with veggie of the day. (The serving was HUGE!)

    BAKED EGGPLANT
Perfectly seasoned eggplant, fresh tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, tofu, fresh garlic & marinara sauce. Served with brown rice & veggie of the day. Choice of soy or cheddar cheese.

Both were $9.95 as were most of the meals. See their website for the complete menu.

    Ragin' Cajun: Good Cajun food

by leeludalas Written May 22, 2004

Nice little Cajun Restaurant. Very casual. The menus are brown paper bags. Nice collection of hot sauces and peppers on each table. Good food, reasonable price.

Favorite Dish: Blackened Chicken or Stuffed Snapper. An appetizer of fried shrimp is always good. Also the red beans and rice as a side. Blackened Voodoo Ale to go with.

  • Mama D's: You won't believe the service!

    by SVargas72 Written Mar 25, 2004

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The service is outstanding. While you wait for a table, you are given fresh baked bread and ice cold water. There is always a short wait...another mark of a truely great restaurant. The food is spectacular. For some, Olive Garden is fine Italian dining. If you fit that category...either stop reading now or get on a plane to Mama D's tomorrow. The food is so good that I had no leftovers, but if you do have to take a "doggy bag" home, the staff will carry it to your car.

Favorite Dish: The Veal Parm was fantastic but all the dishes are great.

California Beach Rockn' Sushi: OUT OF BUSINESS... but a new sushi place opened

    Sample of Cal Beach Sushi

Monday night features all you can eat sushi, and the place goes off. I'm updating this tip now to say that I haven't been there in a couple years now... but it used to be a real party spot on Mondays... if you don't want loud/party scene... then try someplace else. Try Kina in Manhattan. See my Manhattan tip.

this place is gone now... but there is a new sushi place there in the same spot called Hama Hermosa... i went there once... 2 of the 5 people with us got sick there... not sure if I'll go back

Favorite Dish: All-you-can-eat sushi on Monday night.

Yes....that IS a Heineken bottle cap in his nose.

Great ambience! Small and intimate setting where you can have a romantic dinner for two or invite a group of friends to join you for a fun outing! There's two rooms. One is usually for parties of 10 or more. Good food, unbelievable prices, and BYOB! What more could you ask for??? :)

Favorite Dish: Italian restaurant with everything from gnocchi in pesto to lobster ravioli in a cream sauce. The food in and of itself isn't all THAT great, but the ambience and prices make this place tons of fun! :)

Pacific Rim Cafe: Pacific Rim Cafe

by bruingirl Updated Jun 10, 2003

Tiny little local joint where they have good Korean food. Of course, it's not totally authentic, but it's still pretty good. Most people take out. It's not really much of a place where you would sit and eat, but there are a few tables.

Favorite Dish: Try their bulgogi if you've never had Korean food. That's a good starter dish if you've never had Korean.

    Hennessey's: It's a Lovely Day for a Guinness!

by bruingirl Written Jun 10, 2003
Having some fun in the sun!

This pub has Guinness and Newcastle flowing like milk and honey.....The food here is your "typical" pub grub. They are trying to become a bit more high-end as of late, but I don't think it's going to happen. People come here to enjoy a good beer on their patio, while kicking back and soaking in the sun. A great people watching place as it is at the corner of the Strand and the pier. If you can get a table upstairs on a warm day, I highly recommend it! Fantastic views down to Catalina and as far north as Malibu!

Favorite Dish: Fish and chips. Gotta get them. Wash it all down with a nice Guinness. Yep....this is the way life should be and well.....it actually IS! :) They have good salads as well and burgers. Can't go wrong w/ their ENORMOUS onion rings either!
