Hollywood Sign, Hollywood
in the Griffith Park Observatory area, just steps away from the entrance, in the Observatory parking lot.
Griffith Park O address:
2800 East Observatory Road, Los Angeles, CA 90027
Prepare to get here early in the morning to park if you are coming by car. There is some parking at the Observatory but is limited. Especially arrive early during the weekend.
Catch a shuttle ride to view the sign. Late morning/early afternoon trips occur frequently, especially during the summer holiday period.
Favorite thing: Preservationists covered over the Hollywood sign with a banner reading “Save the Peak” to help raise public awareness and the $11.7 million needed to buy the 138-acre tract and prevent its development. If there is one thing which people all aroud the world recognise is this Hollywood Sign. It's so american that private organisations and persons must buy a land and then give it to the city.
The Hollywood sign has to be the most well known Hollywood landmark of them all.
I was surprised that I couldn't see it from everywhere in LA.
I had always imagined it to be emblazoned across the LA skyline for all to see.
We had to actually hunt out the sign using complicated directions but at last we found it and I felt a little tingle of excitement when I first laid eyes on it.
Fondest memory: If you have trouble finding it, head up to Griffith Park Observatory.
Here you not only get a great view of the sign in the distance but , if the smog is not too thick, you will get a fantastic view of LA as a special bonus.
Make sure to visit the Science Museum while you are here.
ps. keep an eye out for the squirrels.
Favorite thing: The Hollywood Sign, like any proper Hollywood star, lives in a gated hillside estate under the watchful eye of security cameras—but it still can't dodge the paparazzi! Nevertheless, you can either get some good pictures with it, from Griffith Park Observatory or, driving up Hollywood hills... lots of squeezy tight curves though.... blah!!!! gor dizzy! :-P Anything to get up close and personal with this 45-foot show biz icon, surrounding Hollywood landscape.
