A great activity in my neck of the woods is a gondola ride through the Channel Islands harbor. An electric gondola which can seat up to four people glides up and down the waterways and with a bottle of your favorite wine, some chocolates and fresh flowers. Tres Romantique! After your gondola ride you can have dinner at the Buon Appetito restaurant....more
I knew I wanted to find something special for a daytime activity as my friends from Canada and another couple were coming up to join us. Then I remembered the Duffy Electric boats you can rent by the hour in the Channel Islands Harbor. In off peak times you won't need a reservation just head to the dock and pick out a boat and away you go. Each...more

Hollywood Beach's most famous resident, Fairy Kat Mother (keida84), took me to Mrs. Olsen's for our final meal together (well, on this trip anyway!). She said it can be crowded but on a Tuesday morning at 9 am we had lots of tables to choose from so we opted to sit on the back patio so we could get a little sunshine before I headed back to the...more

Located in the Bermuda Plaza in Hollywood Beach, BEACH FLOWER GIFTS offers gifts with a nautical theme, shell decorations, beach jewellery, cards, etc. I had fun snooping inside while Hans was preoccupied outside with the bikini-clad mannequin standing near the entrance with her surf-board. I think he was even whispering sweet nothings in her ear....more
In the heart of our little community is a gift shop that is definitely worth a looksee.Owner Louise Nelson has quite a "flag" outside her shop. A bikini clad statue holding a surf board. If you are driving it will certainly catch your eye as you go past and if you are walking it will give you the opportunity to have a good laugh. While you're at it...more
This time of the year, when the beach is quiet and tourists and swimmers are few, obviously there is NO LIFEGUARD ON DUTY. The waves can be very treacherous and can pull you out to sea very quickly. So take care not to venture too far out and even be careful as you walk along the edges of the water.
Incorporated in 1866, the city of San Buenaventura or simply VENTURA had its beginnings when Padre Junipero Serra founded the Mission San Buenaventura in 1782.
After the American Civil War, settlers came to the area, buying land from the Mexicans.
Ventura has some of the best surfing in Southern California, especially Surfer's Point.
Downtown Ventura on Main Street, where we mostly visited, is home to the Mission, museums, shopping and dining. What I couldn't get over was how many thrift shops there were. Had to be four or five stores and every one of them was well stocked and busy.
Our dear friend and VT member, Kathleen (Keida84) took us here for a nice little visit. Thanks KitKat. You're the BEST!
Favorite thing: An hour's drive north of Los Angeles, HOLLYWOOD BEACH is one of southern California's best-kept secrets. Located in Ventura County, this beach community has a collection of beach homes, town houses and condos, in between the Harbor on one side and the Pacific Ocean with views of the Channel Islands on the other. Its wide, mile-long strip of white sand beach is absolutely wonderful. Hans and I so enjoyed walking along the beach. I had fun collection beach glass and even found one white shark's tooth.
