A Statue to "the Duke" by DaveRowley This isn't really "off the beaten track", as it is sited right on the cross-roads of the Pacific Coast Highway, and the Pier & Main St. As I believe, the original World Surfing Champion "the Duke" first set foot in America at Huntington Beach, and consequently it became the USA home leg to the World Championships. His statue stands on an area set out as a Surfers Hall Of Fame, with the famous legends of yesteryear celebrated with stars and handprints. Leave a Comment

Daryl Smith Clocktower at Huntington Beach, CA by DaveRowley Smack bang in the middle of Main St opposite the Sugar Shack Cafe and Killarneys is the Daryl Smith Clocktower. Its a nice looking building blending in with the surrounding buildings and houses shops etc. I'm sorry I don't know anything about Daryl Smith so thought fellow VTers could enlighten me... For those traveling with a dog, there's a dog-beach all the way at the end of Huntington. Follow PCH north and look for people with dogs to indicate area. Leave a Comment

Bolsa Chica Wetlands Just when you think you're in the city, you come upon a huge developing ecosystem of rare plants, birds and wildlife. Huntington Beach is painted not only with the ocean full of surfers and beach enthusiasts. H.B. can claim having wetlands with a lovely diversity of life. Fortunately for nature lovers. the land has not been developed for yet another group of condos and houses to fill the pockets of real estate agents. Update (Aug 25, '06)- After over a hundred years, the wetlands have been reunited with the Pacific Ocean. Before, there was a cut-off from drilling. Now, the wetland marshes can enjoy the ebb and flow from freshwater oceanic waters. Expect the wildlife and all of nature to be benefited! No personal pics are available for now, but I look forward to revisiting the area again- this time with the camera! Check out website! Leave a Comment

The Bolsa Chica Wetlands are a great place to take a walk. There is lots of wildlife especially birds. There are always numerous bird lovers there with telescopes and binaculars. The walk can be as far as 4 miles round trip to as little as a mile. Depends on where you want to cutoff at. The trail starts on Warner ave just a few hundred yards from Pacific Coast Highway. Part of the walk is right along PCH with a great view of the ocean. Leave a Comment
