The Tin Fish Cafe: An Opportunity Lost
Located at the end of the IB Pier with a view of the ocean and coast line.
Casual dress accepted. It's worth a trip up the pier to have a drink and admire the view.
The staff of the restaurant were casual, friendly and very helpful. You may have to share your dining area with birds and fishermen along the pier. There seemed to be equal number of tourist and locals.
They open at 8:00 a.m. and close by 8:00 p.m. serve breakfast, (until 10:30 a.m.) lunch and dinner.
Their operating hours begin at 11:00 a.m. now. Breakfast is no longer served and it seems the shuttle from one end of the pier to the other is no longer offered, except during the summer.
Favorite Dish: I ordered 'Fish and Chips' and my aunt ordered the 'Big Fat Hamburger' She liked her's.
I thought there was more quanity than quality. A filling, but mediocre meal. The prices were too high for the very casual setting.

The Tin Fish Restaurant at the...
The Tin Fish Restaurant at the end of the pier has great fish 'n chips as well as other delicious seafood.
Sit in the sun and watch the waves crash ashore or watch fishing boats heading out to the Coronado Islands or Navy ships deploying to the Pacific. The restaurant has a 'stretch golf cart' that will pick you up and/or deliver you at the street.
Favorite Dish: Halibut 'n chips
Being that there are not that...
Being that there are not that many restaurants in IB, I would have to say that The Tin Fish at the end of the pier is the best. But they are only open until about 8pm. It is also a VERY casual place with just a few tables/counter inside and tables outside--which is not suggested because the birds are very obnoxious and will bother you constantly when you eat. The Tin Fish has the freshest seafood, for sure, but is alittle pricey for being so casual.
Price: pricey for being so casual.
Atmosphere: small inside but nice view if you eat outside on the pier.
Cooks: Work hard and fast and very accommodating.
Favorite Dish: I loved the Garlic Shrimp Scampi Po Boy sandwich. Delicious fries come with it, too. The cook was very open to making something that wasn't on the menu. By the way, their menu is HUGE.
The Tin Fish Cafe: Excelllent, not Frozen, food
Other commentors felt that the food was pricey for the too casual atmosphere, but they are neglecting to mention that the food here is excellent. I brought a large party here and saw them preparing some of the fish and calamari, and it was all battered and cooked fresh, not frozen. They had Sam Adams on tap, we didn't wait very long and even my kids liked their food, which is not an easy task! The birds didn't even bother us until everyone started getting up to leave. It was nice to watch dolphins swimming and see sea stars on the pier. Not an everyday occurance for my Michigander children!
Favorite Dish: The Alaskan Salmon was excellent and the leftovers made great fish tacos! Loved the fried calamari also.
