Irvine's good-for-you restaurants!
The city rivals Newport Beach and Laguna Beach as top city for dining out. Particularly, Irvine has a good number of restaurants and markets that emphasize good, conscious eating, often or exclusively with organic, gluten-free and vegetarian/vegan options. Here is a list of some to try:
Andrei's Conscious Cuisine and Cocktails (a fancier spot and $$$)
Mother's Market (smoothie bar, cafeteria) at 2963 Michelson Dr
Phoney Baloney (vegan fast food) at Spectrum, 4880 Irvine Blvd #102
Seabirds (vegan food truck), often stopped in Irvine
Tender Greens at the Spectrum, 31 Fortune Dr
Veggie Grill (Variety of Vegs options) at University Center, 4213 Campus Dr
and the Spectrum, 81 Fortune Dr
Wheel of Life at 14370 Culver Dr, Suite 2G
Whole Foods Market (cafeteria) at The District, 2847 Park Ave, Tustin, CA (very borderline Irvine)
Zpizza (gluten-free pizza and more) at 17655 Harvard Ave
Fondest memory: The veggie burger and sweet potato fries combo is always a hit at Veggie Grill!
Fondest memory: Just Think! If you worked here, you could go outside at lunch and have all kinds of fun! I see some awesome Hide & Seek happening... maybe pitch quarters against the nice white curb steps leading down to the cement ponds... or just git you one of them lattes and chill until the caffine kicks in. Boy! I bet we'll be gettin' some impo work done today!
Favorite thing: And here's why it's so neat! Someone really knew what they were doing when they planned and executed this layout. The reason I know this is that you only have to move a few steps in any direction and it seems you have a new look, new landscape, and nearly a new place to photograph! That's some more of that "Swingzu" stuff, ain't it?
Well, this may be the cheapest way to be entertained in Irvine. I love the one-dollar cinemahouses and make a point of seeking them out and revealing them to all! It is located along Barranca Parkway in the Woodbridge area, which like most parts of Irvine , is pretty. The hot dogs are also a buck here also!
Movies 5 (Starplex)
(949) 733-0980 (call for movie schedule, theater info)
Favorite thing: Throughout the city, rabitts scatter in and out through bushes and on grassy fields. These fast and furry creatures are full-time residents of University of Irvine, along with students themselves! The white tail cuties are all over.
Edwards Cinema at Irvine's University Center
If one wants to find the really off beat and independent films to watch on a big screen, depend on the Edwards to deliver each time.
Here, you will find other more refined and discerning arthouse cinema fans who appreciate the true experience of movie going.
In the U.S., an annual list comes out each year that ranks the top and bottom cities of America according to particular stats, usually related to violent crime of persons and property per number of residents. In 2005, Irvine has battled its way up to number one- the safest city in the U.S.! The reason why one feels very secure here: Irvine is all about work and living. There is simply no time for crime. Also, the city of Irvine invests well in policing and keeping the place clean in all senses.
Of course, let's not get carried away to think that nothing bad happens here. So, never let your guard down completely, as we still roam on this volatile planet we call Earth!
Still, when you come here to visit for fun at the Spectrum and at various other entertainment venues , you'll very likely be comfortable and at least have a wonderful feeling of security.
Favorite thing: Although strictly not IN Irvine, Corona Del Mar is a beautiful beach spot, not 10 minutes from where I work. Take MacArthur South and then left on PCH. About 1/2 mile down, you'll reach Banderas restaurant (tasty!). Turn right and park on the cliff. It's a beautiful place to enjoy God's creation and walk with the one you love, or have a BBQ with all your buddies.
I'd take them to the Lab, AKA Anti-Mall, which is a few blocks west of the infamous, humoungous and overpriced South Coast Plaza Mall.
Fondest memory: Riding my banana-seat bicycle through the hot summer days with my friends. Playing made-up games in my front yard. Climbing the trees. Swinging really high.
Fondest memory: This is more a place to share views with you than to tell you about what to do here. But if you have a business trip to this part of Irvine, I'm pretty sure you'll like the area!
Fondest memory: My office was such a mess but I did clean it up before I left. This office had a nice view of the 405 freeway. I could watch the traffic to figure out when is the best time to leave.
