Downtown Jackson is the main place to go when visiting for architecture, old Gold-Rush feel, and for shopping for antiques or the like. However, downtown has almost no places to eat. There is a Mexican place at one end, a deli in the middle (closed on Sundays) and, supposedly, a burger place hidden somewhere at the other end. Otherwise, it's just stores, empty buildings, and a couple dim bars. Unless one wants to eat at a shopping centre down the road (why?), don't plan to stop here for food. It is, unlike other large Mother Lode towns such as Angel's Camp, Sonora, or even Sutter Creek, rather devoid of dining places downtown.
