by cobrioc A great picnicking spot can be found at Black Rock Canyon Recreation Area, just inside the same-named entrance on Joshua Lane, which is clearly marked from the highway. The dramtic boc canyon lined with junipers, cholla cacti and desert shrubs affords spectacular vistas of the Morongo Valley and San Bernandino Mountains, all best seen from the I.3-mile High View Trail Loop. If you are lucky, you might also spot one of the park's elusive bighorn sheep foraging along a hilltop at dusk. Once the sun settles over the mountains, lower the car windows and listen for the singing of the coyotes that prevail in this corner of the park.

Why won't men use sun cream? by ranger49 After a full day in Joshua Tree National ParK, we went to eat at the 29 Palms Inn. Accommodation there is in small adobe cottages, painted in different colours beautifully reflecting the hues of dusk on the National Park and Mojave Desert. The restaurant adjoins the Inn's pool area which had a slightly run down look. Service in the restaurant was prompt, efficient and friendly. The bar is used by a few local people and the whole place has an old fashioned feel - it was so good to escape the shiny plastic of fast food chains! We had an excellent meal with fresh ingredients (vegetables produced in the garden) good meat, fish and pasta dishes and really good salads (try the oasis dressing, it's superb). Leave a Comment

by ITabatch On weekends, the small dining room is packed with a mix of locals and with the people who are spending the night at the Inn itself. Diners come out of their way to eat ath the Inn. The hostess is a bright effervescent woman who makes you feel like you have spent every single night of your life in eating and drinking in this establishment. Everyone who works there is truly kind, from the bartender to the people who constantly fill up your water glass.
I ate almost every meal here during my 4-day trip. Everything on the entire menu is spectacular, but the best meal is on the lunch menu. The Inn Club Special, consisting of turkey, ham, avacado, bacon and swiss cheese, all are combined together to make one magnificent sandwich. My father and I ate this on the first day there, and we loved it so much that we had it twice again, taking them with us on our hikes to Wonderland Wash and Juniper Flats. Some of the main dishes were a bit expensive, but you could share a platter which provides a more-than-satisfactory portion of food for a decent price. Nice architecture/decor of restaurant. Friendly staff. Great margaritas - perfect to end a day of hiking in the desert.

Under the blue canopy, plenty of fresh air, and hopefully at least one or more good friends.
The fresh strawberries brought by one of the ladies was the best. Leave a Comment Theme: Health FoodPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterAddress: Where ever you like; just pick a spot.Directions: Hike around a lot to work up a good appetite, then find a pleasant place to site down.

Carousel Cafe, 29 Palms by Andraf Carousel Cafe restaurant fells like the regular small town American restaurant. We ate there on two occasions, once for breakfast and once for lunch. We had omelettes for breakfast and steaks for lunch, the usual of what you would expect to get in a diner. In short: food is good, nothing fancy, low prices.
