The shops in Julian offer lots of local arts and crafts but one thing you'll find that might be of interest is the genuine Native American Art and handcrafted items locally made.
The interplay between miners and the Kumeyaay, Iipay Nation can easily be imagined while spending time in this area of San Diego. Though it hasn't always been the case, the simple fact that there is still room for everyone, which has lasted from the early days, speaks to the idea that it is possible to live in peace and with respect.
The Kumeyaay in the San Diego areas has steadily been raising their standard of living, but most importantly has been re-building their own cultural history into a present day reality for all to share.

Life is simple here, most B&B's don't even have phones in their rooms, much less data ports. Most cellular phones won't work well here either. The crime rate in Julian is next-to-nothing, it's very safe.
Our last major 'crime wave' was when some high-school kids stole the big chicken off of 'Tom's Chicken Shack' restaurant a few years back. When the TV show 'COPS' came to Julian, the only crime they could find was an illegally parked camper... So just leave your big city worries (and car alarms) behind and enjoy our country serenity!
