If Your route to Julian is from the southwest, you'll go through the southern section of the Cleveland National Forest.
Here there are camping sites, fishing, hunting and lots of flora and fauna to enjoy. There are winter activities to do as well when the snows up here have fallen, it becomes a winter time mecca for San Diegans who rarely ever see snow.
This is a combination of two pictures showing an isolated home in the hills.
See Travelogue on Julian page.
Lake Cuyamaca is located on Highway 79 in the Cleveland National Forest, on the way to Julian.
It's a great place for fishing, camping or boating. There is a restaurant here as well as a place to buy a fishing licence, fishing supplies, rent a boat (with or without motor,) or to rent a cabin to spend the night or longer.
Some times they offer great "Off Season" deals to entice visitors to enjoy the peace and quiet of the lake for a day or weekend. They also offer special events such as, a Children's Fishing Derby, a two mile Geocache Game, Duck Hunting during the official State and Federal season, though they accommodate for Weddings and Filming it is not possible to hold an exclusive event here. Check their website for fees and regulations for various options. Just remember, a stop here and a picnic near the lake is wonderful and free.
