Local wildlife was everywhere if you looked. Unfortunately,
my camera was not ready when it popped up! A raccoon, was
discovered having raided our neighbor's campsite, of all of
their bread, potato chips and oatmeal! He declined to steal
their top ramen noodles or the large watermelon they had in
the creek, cooling! We had a really awesome sight watching
a beaver in the early morning...crossing the current of the
river with a branch for building his lodge, the photo didn't
turn out well though. I also saw a blue heron fishing from
his little island on a bar of sand in the river, and it's
colors were bright blue in the sunlight. Many people were
catching 'rainbow trout' which were large and fat! My son
was able to land his first fish, but it wasn't a keeper, so
we put it back for another time....perhaps we'll go back in
We had lunch along side this tree-lined section of the Kern River. It was adjacent to our campsite and was so peaceful, I almost fell asleep.
Here's Eva and Donna, relaxing on a rock.
